Well, Doom is just the game that invented multiplayer ;-)

First connecting via serial cable, afterwords a bunch of people meeting with some friend working for Infineon, who brought some of those strange network cards we put into our PCs 4 AM in the morning all finally connected. So fired up Doom - all players in the same virtual space - how cool is that! John Carmack invented this multiplayer thing.

Sorry for that comment from some old fart, but I had an urge to bring up some gaming history

Nonetheless, this is hardly related to the current game besides marketing

I was incredibly disappointed. I no longer auto-buy things with "id software" stamped on them.

To devote an entire season pass to the mp and not single player or possibly some cool co-op pve type modes is a complete fail.

Simplistic arena shooters will never be more than a few hours of fun for the majority of the player base.

MP is being so promoted because it's a lot harder to make a single-player game these days. That's why today's supposed PC games inevitably get morphed into a console game experience.

I feel as though you missed an opportunity here to name your new account BackInBlack, or FadeInBlack, or something along those lines.

(New) Doom is on the $9.99 or under list for single player for me.

Both me and my kiddo got on the Overwatch beta and the Doom beta for this weekend. We played the hell out of Overwatch. Doom got about 10 minutes, and we even had some trouble with logging in.

Pretty much my entire feelings are mirrored by the plentiful Steam reviews.

Was that a full 10 minutes or more like hard 5? Yes, someone stated that a lot of reviews are from players under 1 hour, I think he meant that as a bad review due to not enough time. But whatever, either game you mention is just all more of the same we've had, good or bad. Doom is all but a name now, those that mattered in the making of the franchise, long gone.

One hour is enough! It's all the same, over and over.

Yeah I can agree in several cases but it is still a bit shallow, ones mood, commitment, preconceived feelings can really vary with such a quick peak.

But then the wise choice is "I already own this type of game already, same thing over and over, might as well save the $60 and play that". It's what I pretty much conclude most of the time. It is why VR is intriguing to me, something fresh, I think we need it, but opinions will vary.

So they're not going to get what they want, neither will Doom fans who want multiplayer.

A shame it's not going down well. I played the hell (pun intended) out of Doom 1 and 2, Quake 1-3, and UT99, UT2004 and even UT3. But I'm just not jonesing for this one.

If it had rocket jumping and the old Doom/Quake/Rocket Arena madness, then heck yes, but it's just not grabbing me.

I played a bit of UT99 again a few months ago, found a bunch of really great new and old maps and had a blast against bots. That game, along with Q3A still has is for action multiplayer FPS killing.

The stuff I've read and seen about the new Doom and all this multiplayer focus and how they're doing it, leaves me with absolutely no desire to try it.

It seems more like they're trying to use the Doom name to get some of the CoD pie, nothing more. I played a multiplayer match and could tell almost right away that this is not the Doom game that I wanted. Player classes have no place in Doom. Double Jump has no place. Slow movement speed. Almost everything didn't feel right except for the look of the game.

I couldn't get past the smeary look of the game. Like it was rendered at 480p and up scaled to 1440p. I'm betting it's largely the shitty AA they force you to use, but there's no way to turn it off to check. You literally cannot get a good look at anything in the game, it's all slightly out of focus.

That's because that pos reverts back to 1080p on your 1440p screen even if it says 1440p in options, you have to re-apply it every time you start the game. From technical and A/V side this beta is as shitty consolised trash as it gets, core mechanics are even worst IMHO. Worst part is, judging by recent AAA "beta" trends that are just glorified demos few weeks before lunch I can bet not much if anything will change at release, sure they will unlock some gfx options but not much else.

I have a 1080p monitor and the game looked upscaled from 1440p. It looks blurry as sh*t. Noticeably terrible. Also, there's no way to turn AA off, I hate AA. The game is a blurry mess. Maybe they're trying to hide the terrible textures because of their shitty megatextures.

I've tried the beta a bit more on the weekend.
I am not really into it. Had more fun playing Battleborn than this. Hopefully the single player is good.

I'll go with this comment. I despise PVP so I won't be buying the pass. most likely won't be buying this game either from the sounds of it. I'll wait it out until there's a 5 or 10 dollar sale. So disappointing to see all the emphasis on MP.

Stacking is a very good argument because not having proper control points around the map reduces the game to grouped blobs of camping. You can actualy see this in quake live CA on certain maps literally both teams end up camping 2 locations in stacks and sit and wait.

You need to give teams stuff to do. More than 1 or 2 things. In Q3 tdm you have the RL, the RG, the QUAD, and the RA to try and control and when one side loses control they would strategically retreat etc.

Your "PWNGODS" comment really points out that you are just QQing about not being good. But in either case DOOM as it stands today's multiplayer will be dead and irrelevant in less than 4 months if they release in it's current format. It will just be a casual console shooter like halo cod - possibly more dead.

Actually it reduces team play to just stacking.

You mean like in Team Fortress? "Stacking"? Really?? So your solution would be what, give everyone all the weapons from the start? Or let them spawn with pistols, so that PWNGODS can have their fun. There are plenty of arguments why loadouts suck, weapon balancing can be one, but "stacking" is a bullshit argument...
