There's a ton of unrealistic fps on the market... Not sure why you like this game so much. It's so generic and bland.

Because there is a new generation of gaming morons born every minute who never played any games before the year 2000. There is the dumb half of our generation that seems intellectually backward and always rationalizes the game industries mediocrity.

FPS games were played out by the time UT2003/Quake3 came around, we'd already had umpteen many fps games with blood/duke/shadow warrior/etc during that time in the 90's. There was an avalanche of fps games that just never stopped.

Basically multiplayer FPS games peaked on PC with UT2004, the modern gamer is such a fucking idiot chimp it's disturbing that very few people have memories of rocket arena, or threewave and mindlessly lap up what modern game companies feed them. For those of us who remember the good old days on modems and kali/kahn IPX emulation for warcraft 2/Descent, you're not going to convince the dumb retard half of our generation.

I've been playing Quake 2 years on end back in the days. Same with Unreal and RTCW Multiplayer and Enemy Territory.

I agree that Doom is generic and bland, but I was still pleasantly surprised. That says less about me than about the market. I am sick of the new FPS MPs where you can't even strafe anymore because strafing is too slow, and the 1vs1 moments are shorter than 1,5 seconds.

I let it download last night. Played one game of team deathmatch. Deleted it. It's not that it is bad, but it offers nothing new that I saw. I hear it requires a 4GB graphics card? I have a 2GB. I could get this gameplay out of Open Arena for free. BTW, I recorded some sounds and created a class based mod for it. The CTF event sounds are all me on guitar. Played guitar bass and drums for the flag capture sound.

Played an hour. It was boring. You move incredibly slowly and everyone has too much health. It definitely feels like halo. At least if it was more like call of duty you'd die faster. There's not much else to say really...

How old are you? Because right now you sound like a person who grew up with CoD instead of Quake, Doom and Unreal. The fact that everyone has much health is an absolute winner for me! It's like old times, where winning against another player was based on being consistently better than the other player instead of who's having the most twitchy trigger-finger.

This game is the first game in ages where I was finally handed everyone their asses. I think I killed 15 guys before I kicked the bucket because fights weren't over in an instant and accuracy mattered again.

I am pleasantly surprised. The graphics are weird and yes, you move a tad too slow, but finally! An FPS that doesn't try to be realistic or like CoD!

I'm old enough that I was gaming before fps games even existed... With that said, it feels like everyone has more health than in Quake 3, and a LOT more than in the old Dooms. It's the overall balance, the way the game is setup, it's unsatisfying and it's really easy to get your kills stolen. I was saying that COD would be better than Halo, not because I want it to be like COD, but because this new doom IS a mix of COD and Halo. If they were going to make it like that, I would have preferred that they take the health of COD.

I personally always preferred games where you die more easily. You're imagining things, there's as much skill in these games than in bullet sponge ones.

There's a ton of unrealistic fps on the market... Not sure why you like this game so much. It's so generic and bland.

Battleborn has way too much RPG + MOBA mixed in for my tastes.
Overwatch is TF2 with more characters and greater variety/contrast in abilities among those characters... but each character having a base attack, 2 abilities, and an ultimate is enough for me.

Also Battleborn appears to have even more UI clutter and effect shit than Overwatch, which has been a complaint I've heard for Blizzard's title though it doesn't bother me personally... With Battleborn's it looks like it would be too much.

Spent time with both Doom and Overwatch this morning. I had fun with both. Probably will get both. For whatever reason both of these clicked with me. Been a long time since I played a multiplayer shooter and actually enjoyed it. I am going to get a lot of hours out of both of these.

for me it's a toss up between battleborn and overwatch. i was originally going the overwatch route, but battleborn is just more fun I think...

You aren't the first person I heard that from in the last few days. I haven't been interested in Battleborn previously, the videos I have seen have done nothing for me, but with all the chatter I should probably at least give it a look.

Regarding the 60 fps lock apparently under advanced options you'll be able to cap it at 144fps.

Dark Side of Gaming

Advanced options is disabled for the beta.

I love how this site has over two dozen comments for a game most notable for having an ancient lineage.

Can't tell if you think it's a low or high post count.
I think it's terribly low considering the pedigree of the site, but understandable when the game is on the turdy side.

I don't know man, only Star Citizen seems to draw the 5 page fire recently.

Well my wife gifted and pre-ordered it for my upcoming birthday on monday. I won't get to play the singleplayer till May, but I was happy with the present. Like I said before, the hate flows way too strong with the crowd on this one, but despite that, the mayhem and madness of the MP is fun....All the major complaints are valid (speed, FPS lock, balancing) but they are also very fixable.

I don't recall ever seeing that before, it's amazing

edit: Blue I found an error: "Don't forget: The Doom engine will adjust the horizontal aim of your shots, allowing you to hit an opponent above or below you."

They've really stuffed it by trying to combine halo, cod, quake and doom into one game.

It's hard to tell from a MP arena shooter what the single player campaign will be like, but it's so far not captured the essence of the original Doom games.

from what i heard of someone who's actually played a singleplayer build of the game they told me that it's entirely different and thankfully much better than the multiplayer beta. it's luckily only the multiplayer that's like halo/cod.

14GB for this very stripped down beta. LOL @ megatextures.

It's pretty obvious this game is made for the console first and foremost. The need to make it playable with a controller just smacks you in the face so hard. No twitchy aiming (which you'd only have with a mouse), no bunny hopping or rocket jumping. Movement, while a little faster than Doom 3, is not as fast as it should be (much faster in id's old games).

But given that the multiplayer is made by another company made up of ex Halo and CoD developers, it's no wonder the MP of Doom blows this much ass. It all makes perfect sense. Made for a console by devs from the two FPSes that watered down the genre so bad.

Overwatch feels like a faster game. Playing both today and some marvel heroes, i'd say the slowest in overwatch is = to DOOM marine for speed. So sad. Only way DOOM is fast is that fact that most guns except the RL will one shot you and you respawn fast. Levels are so small that you will to be in the action as you respawn, and slow movement means no tactical combat. Don't get me started on the "finishing moves" and how they basically mean you die in animation lock.
