The DOOM FAQ for the multiplayer closed
beta of the upcoming shooter has all the details on testing of the game.
Though the keys to this were handed out long ago as a preorder bonus for
Wolfenstein: The New Order, the FAQ includes word that this weekend they'll
be handing free DOOM closed beta access codes at GameStop and EB Games
Canada (thanks placid). Here's word:
Starting April 1 at 6pm ET, visit your local GameStop or EB Games (Canada) to receive a free DOOM Closed Beta access code. Codes will be distributed through April 3.

I really have no idea why people preorder in this day and age. In the past, it was to ensure a copy of the game before the store ran out of stock. But games are available digitally with unlimited copies, so that's not a worry any longer. Why on Earth would you preorder?

Buying an Xbone at this point seems like a waste of money. Most of the exclusives are coming to PC (though you unfortunately need to use Windows 10 and the Windows Store to get them).

Wait, go into a Gamestop on April 1st and ask for a beta key for Doom? Why does this feel like they are giving every Gamestop employee an easy April Fools joke for all that ask?

I wouldn't mind a beta key, but I am afraid if I walk into an EBgames and ask for a PC beta code they will look at me like I am from a different planet.

Agreed. I have absolutely no desire to ever step inside a Gamestop again and I'm looking forward to their inevitable Chapter 7 bankruptcy. They would probably laugh at us anyway if we actually asked for a Windows key.
Ugh... I'd like a beta key, but to have to set foot into a retail store, let alone a Gamestop...
