It's not the US. Just parts of it. Generally the South. And the Midwest. Basically all the red states, but Florida and Texas in particular. Whenever we hear about dumb shit out of the US 9/10 times it's either Florida or Texas. Hell, Family Guy already nailed it with the Everyone From Florida is Stupid song.

Something both those states have in common that helps skew the ideologies is HUGE numbers of retirees and no state income tax......

A majority is still red. Including the famed Bible belt, which is hardcore red. That's about as Midwest as you can get. Is there exceptions? sure. But that giant section of red running down the middle cannot be escaped.

The bible belt only includes 1 of 12 of the states considered Midwest.

Might want to look up what the Midwest is and compare that with election maps. They're not red states. There's a few, but most are blue.

Edit: Hmm, I'll have to correct myself a bit and limit my statement to presidential elections only. Local governments are more red (which is more in line with the context of your comment anyway) and even with the presidential elections it's close... Also the region I'd consider "great plains" is in the Midwest apparently. I'd more consider it the great lake states like Michigan, Ohio, Illionis, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota... but then there are 6 more like Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, etc.

The government's been using an ancient law to coerce corporations into doing things they shouldn't have to do. In this instance it has nothing to do with decrypting the phone, but yet again the government trying to increase its powers and overstep its authority, like it's been doing for the past 15 years. If it's decided a company has to do whatever the government tells it, in the name of "security" (more like unsecurity), even if it ruins their product or name, then that's about as unpatriotic and unamerican as possible. Too many people willing to throw all of their constitutional rights and privacy away as soon as someone brings up the scary "terrorists".

Considering that the US Government supplies money, guns, equipment and performs the majority of terrorist attacks in the world. It shouldn't be that hard for them to find the terrorists.
Of course in their view terrorism is fine, unless is it performed against their country.

Considering it's ok for Apple to be guilty of price fixing and get a small fine, yet this is the bigger issue? It's all about government access to every part of our lives.

You don't need access to everyone's phone to know who the terrorists are. It's not that hard to figure it out.

We elect these guys too. County Sheriffs. They can ride Democratic tickets or Republican tickets as well. Some countries do not allow political influence in there justice system, the US does. Why? honestly its dumb as hell.
