Out of the Blue

It's hard to deny spring has sprung around here... it hit the 70s yesterday, and while it won't be quite so warm for the next couple of days, it looks like we've seen the last of winter. This is evidenced by an immediate shift in the climate of my attic office, as it was just a couple of days ago I was still using a small comforter to stay warm, while last night I opened a window due to how hot it was. At this rate the air conditioner will be on within days.

We're supposed to hit the upper 80s next week; I truly fear the summer will be brutal.

I'm not sure what the big deal is about videosift. If you have no blocking software of any kind yeah its a bit annoying, but that's pretty much anywhere on the web. Noscript and/or adblock gets rid of that normally leaving the video playable. If the video is not playable you'll generally have the same problem on the source site. Not that I really care if videos are directly linked from youtube or wherever, I just find it odd people are that bothered by videosift links.

Yeah, I don't mind videosift either. The last media link I clicked on here was a videosift.

I have been using VideoSift for a very long time. I hit it almost daily. What was the issue with it for people here?

Personally.. I like giving the ad revenue to the site actually hosting the video. Vimeo and youtube browser plugins don't load through videosift either.

It's not a big deal really, I just click through and leave all of videosift blocked. I imagine most people block Videosifts ads, defeating the purpose of linking to it in the first place.

A few people complain and now we get NO media.
I miss it already.
If peeps are that aghast with videosift.com then they can find their own workaround.

I never send Blues a link to Videosift. 90% of the time Videosift is just embedding a Youtube video. I always go to the Youtube video itself and email that link.

I'm not virulently opposed to Videosift videos, but I've never liked their site, or the fact that they often mis-represent video titles.

Don't care if Blues keeps posting Videosift links, but I for one will never send him one.

I never see any ads myself because I use UBlock Origin.

I don't have a problem with Videosift ads myself. They may be embedding Youtube video most of the time, but they deserve some (financial?) credit for searching out (mostly) interesting clips.

I also have no issues with Videosift. I kinda like the links actually as they lead me to browse their top 10. I don't even do much to block ads, Firefox and Adblock plus is all.

I block ads so that angle of the videosift complaints doesn't apply for me. I just prefer to watch YouTube videos on YouTube. I don't see any value to watching them wrapped by some other site. I always thought Blue had some partnership thing going on because it didn't make any sense for me otherwise. First thing I do is click over to YouTube when I get linked there.

If YouTube doesn't serve ads in embedded videos, it's YouTube's fault...not don't sites that use provided method to embed videos.
Having said that, I do get pre-roll and banner ads in youtube videos on videosift...

Okay, but Youtube doesn't provide a good list of curated vids.

Fine, but when using a site for discovery purposes you aren't typically linked directly to specific content. When linking to a specific video the intention isn't to provide a source of curated content, it's to watch the video. And 90% or more of the time that video is a youtube video, and videosift is just an extra unnecessary layer around that video. I prefer youtube's site design over videosift, I prefer its related video suggestions, I like that I'm logged into my account and can favorite or thumbs up the video, hell I even like the comments. And to be honest I've tried to use videosift for the "quality" aspect and I just don't really see it. Take a look at their front page and tell me those videos are anything special. I can't.
