Tom Clancy's The Division Released

Ubisoft announces the release of Tom Clancy's The Division, calling it an open-world action/RPG this time, and saying it should now be available for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This post on the game's official website covers what to expect from a day one patch with a list of changes since the open beta. There's a post about the release on the UbiBlog that features the previously released launch trailer, and the following details:
Have you been itching to take to the streets and restore order to an epidemic-ravaged Manhattan? The Division is ready for you, and you can now explore its online open world on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Casting you as an elite sleeper Agent equipped with realistic weapons and futuristic tactical gear, The Division invites you to match wits with deadly roving gangs and other players while you fight to reclaim New York from chaos.

An action-RPG, The Division gives you not just the chance to freely roam Manhattan with up to three other players, but to customize your Agent to suit your play style and/or preferred role on the team. You’ll also encounter other teams in the quarantined Dark Zone, where – amid battling other threats – you’ll have the choice of working together or turning on other Agents for a chance at snagging rare weapons and equipment for yourself.

The Division arrives alongside its companion book, The Division: New York Collapse, which takes the form of a survival guide filled with scribbled notes and removable clues left by a survivor as she investigated the mystery behind the pandemic. To see excerpts from The Division: New York Collapse, take a look at our previous coverage.

Let the hate flow through you

You've been here for a long time, you know how it goes on blues. First, this is a new IP, that means it's not an HD classic remake. Second it's Ubisoft. Third, it's a console game.

MOAR HATE!!!!!
Oh I know how it goes, game is still fun even if it ticks off all those boxes.

Not really into this type of game myself, but maybe I'll grab it on sale. Sounds kinda neat though.

So i watched some twitch during beta of this..

Still don't fully get what the game is about.

So Destiny but in New York with different items basically?

What's "end game"? Is this mostly PVP based?

Why did that video trailer just tell me it was a huge hype piece of shit? (that was my impression, i fucking hate shit strung together trailers)

Reposting this here now that Blue has it up:

I will say with everything at max, The Division holds up to any videos they ever showed. Just a super sexy engine.

Also I'm really surprised how much was cut from the Beta's. And I dont mean just missions. Echo's have quite a bit more depth to them, Video's that are recovered are fairly brutal in their depiction of what would happen if NYC ever had to deal with a New Orleans/Katrina type situation.
The crafting system is nice, clean, easy to understand. The talent system is also pretty nice.

So far I'm having a blast, and really glad they didn't do the Ubisoft 'mold' they have done in 99% of their other games over the last few years.

Granted I've never really played a shooter MMO like this or Destiny, but I'm really digging it.

uh there was ZERO destruction in the beta, and very little in regards to any physics, it was another Battlefront as far as I could tell, very pretty, but nothing more past that. The story showed some promise, however that had a few holes in it as well..its like an open world CoD for the most part from my view.

Um I highly doubt that even the Frostbyte engine could handle what's in the Division let alone with destruction. Not that I mentioned anything about destruction in The Division.
As for compairing it to Battlefield/CoD... um ok...
Story wise it goes like this (someone places small pox on money and then with the Black Friday sales (especially in someone as populated in New York, especially with cabs, trains, subways, buses) it spread like wildfire. There is a part BEFORE the helicopter ride from the Beta that sets up the story along with the intro video.

Don't run, walk to your nearest Egghead Software store and buy the Verge CD version of this action packed thriller. Includes free AOL for 6 months and a custom keyboard overlay.
