Need for Speed Most Wanted Free on Origin

Origin's On the House program now offers Need for Speed Most Wanted as the latest free game offered to anyone with an Origin account (thanks Game Bundle News via Ant. As usual, word is: "There's no catch. Grab full games, expansions and more at absolutely no cost. Just make sure to act fast because On the House specials can appear and disappear at any time." Here's a refresher on the latest installment in this hard driving series:
The open-world action in Need for Speed Most Wanted gives you the freedom to drive anywhere, discover hidden gameplay, meet up with your friends or just hang out and toy with law enforcement. Lose the cops … your way. Hit jumps and shortcuts, switch cars, lie low or head for terrain that plays to your vehicle’s unique strengths. Hit the gas and fight your way past cops and rivals using pure driving skill, aggression, high-end car tech and tons of nitrous. It’s all about you, your friends and the wildest selection of cars in a heavily policed, urban landscape.

I'm probably going to get a lack of flake for this but EA providing free games is pretty cool. So far EA has given away Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, Jade Empire: Special Edition and now NFS Most Wanted.

And Ultima VIII, Syndicate, Sim City 2000, Wing Commander III and Crusader: No Remorse. They have a new freebie every two months. I'm not sure when they started exactly so there might have possibly been even more free games but those are the ones I claimed for free and, yeah, that's really great of them. Origin has developed into a pretty customer friendly platform.

Now if EA would stop dumbing down games to retard status (Battlefront) and also adopt their DLC and pricing strategies to a less obvious rip-off model, well, then this could be the beginning of a wonderful friendship but we have a loooong way to go...

And Bejeweled 3, Peggle, Zuma's Revenge, Sims 2, Dragon Age: Origins (w/o DLC) and Theme hospital as well

They also gave away the original Dragon Age. I snagged it, but have yet to play it.

I'm far from a fan of big corporations, but I agree, they are giving away some good stuff for free.

This isn't the actual NFSMW (which was fantastically fun), it's the rebooted Criterion one (which was pretty crappy).
Burnout Paradise was pretty fun, but forced into the NfS formula, with Cops ... this game here should be called Burnout Paradise 2 and in comparison to its predecessor it's worse. Hell, Criterion didnt even improve the horrible interface ...

Yeah I took it. As I do with most of the "On the House" Origin games that pop up from time to time.

I don't mind Origin either really. More digital platforms is not a problem IMO. However I would like for Steam Overlay to work in all the games I choose to play. But alas, it doesn't so no crying over spilled milk.

Most fun I had with Need For Speed games were the ones from the 90s (mainly the first one in 94).

Game play vid here.

Funny, my son was just asking the other day if I had a game where you could race running away from the cops. Then this became available for free. Serendipity.

This isn't the actual NFSMW (which was fantastically fun), it's the rebooted Criterion one (which was pretty crappy). I could waste away hours at a time running from cops in the original 2005 title, but the 2012 one just wasn't any fun. Cars felt bad and the cops were terrible.

Was actually one of the better of the series, and if I remember correctly this was the first open world/city of the series.

Yup not the one I remember. It looks.. eh...

Using a steering wheel on a Burnout game is like using the Space Shuttle controls to fly a kite.

78 on Metacritic. It's not a fantastic game, but it's nothing to turn your nose up at for free.

P.S. I don't like having so many different distribution platforms (GOG Galaxy, Steam, Origin, UPlay), but as platforms go Origin is fine. I've haven't experienced any issues with it.

I don't mind having them all eithery, Steam shouldn't have a total monopoly. UPlay and Origin seem pretty light these days anyway.

But don't mistake their freebies for altruism. It's a marketing ploy to attract users. Sony did the same thing last generation with their lame duck online service. There are still good games coming out on PSPlus, but since they got market dominance they don't feel the need to give out high value AAA titles anymore.

It's junk. Play around for 5mins - multiplayer not fun at all even trying to play with my boy - no cops or cop vs racer
WTF? Right?!

I liked the 1st which came with the wheel and was also wondering if I should grab it or not, the fact is I don't have Origin and don't want to install it only for a game which also require internet connection.

I think I will pass and let the wheel in the box.

Following its release, the game won several awards including the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards for Best Driving Game and was nominated for Best British Game and Best Online Multiplayer at the 2013 BAFTA Awards, and was repeatedly recognized as the best driving/racing game of 2012 by several outlets.
