last night includes word that as of
February 14th, Squadron 42 and Star Citizen will become two
separate packages (thanks Cutter). At that time Squadron 42 will become a
standalone game or an optional add on for Star Citizen, a plan that's apparently
old news to backers of the space combat game(s). Here's word:
At the December livestream, we announced that Squadron 42 and Star Citizen will be split into two separate packages in the near future. To update on this: the split will occur on February 14th. Squadron 42 will be available as either a stand alone game or an optional addon for Star Citizen rather than be included by default. It was a bitch to get through the website and figure out what i bought. I pledged in October 2012, and for my $60.00 price i got both Star Citizen the universe, and Squadron 42. After Feb 14th you need to buy each piece. Its a crazy ass system, and missing deliveries has not helped their image. If your stuggling to figure out what you got, log into your account and look at the first pledge box reward. that shows the game parts you have coming.
We've decided to split it into three games. Sq42, SC and Star Marine.

Which really is a clear indication they have to keep selling the unfinished game, they know what the books look like. There is no choice but to sell the game continually.

Really looking forward to this game (both of them).
As-is, I feel I've already gotten my money worth; the flight model is fun, and the small version of the universe is an awesome peak into what's coming.

Haha, every Star Citizen update tries to one-up the last in terms of shock and ridiculousness, I can only admire their audacity at this point. 
Only thing I'd be interested in is the single player version anyway, so this may be a good thing, long term. REALLY long term.

So now we have to pay twice for a game that simply failed to deliver yet. Like 100+ million isn't enough, they want to milk this shit out more by splitting it in two.
I guess I'll see in 2020 whether or not Squadron 42 will meet that year's standards.

Always makes me glad I didn't buy in. I thought about that initially but I'll just wait another 5 years and see if they actually come out with a game(s)
Yeah, I'm assuming the base amount I gave them back before all the BS started includes everything (except the $300 ships I didn't buy) because that's what they said at the time. No backsies. Of course, nothing would surprise me at this point.
Ah, on reflection, here's what I figure: Backers will get Squadron 42. Star Citizen will be F2P with microtransactions. This is a totally uneducated guess since I stopped paying attention, figuring I'll start again once it's finished (sick to death of alphas and "Early Access".... I only play finished games now).

So... if I pledged for the single player space flight sim on kickstarter, wtf does that mean for me? Do I get both? Just the one really one? or?

Squadron 42 is all I wanted in the first place. My early pledge better get me that instead of the fucking MMO.
