Conan Exiles Announced

Funcom announces Conan Exiles, a multiplayer open-world survival game that will enter early access this summer on PCs with a full launch to follow for PC and consoles. At the end of last year Funcom announced a renewed agreement with Conan Properties, and teased that this news was on the way. There's a cinematic announcement trailer and some screenshots on the game's official website, and they and offer some details on their plans to get things started:
"I walk in a land of desperation. A wasteland of the exiled and the outcast. Where the broken strive to build and the weak are crushed while the strong survive."

These are the words of Conan the Barbarian as he strides across a desert wasteland, skulls and bones crushing beneath is sandaled feet, in the brand new cinematic trailer released today announcing Funcom's new game 'CONAN EXILES'. Available on PC in Early Access this summer, with a full launch on both PC and console to follow, 'CONAN EXILES' challenges players to survive, build and dominate in the brutal world of the greatest fantasy hero of all time: Conan the Barbarian.

"There is no better setting for an open-world survival game than the world of Conan," said Joel Bylos, creative director at Funcom. "Hyboria is a harsh and unforgiving land where only the strongest can survive while the weak are swiftly cut down. Whether it is hunting animals for food, fighting monsters and other players, or building entire settlements, we want to make sure players feel like they are really fighting to survive and prosper in the most brutal fantasy world ever."

'CONAN EXILES' is first and foremost a multiplayer game that can be enjoyed on both private and public servers, but it will also feature a single-player mode.

You are an exile, one of thousands cast out to fend for themselves in a barbaric wasteland swept in sandstorms and besieged by enemies on every side. Grow crops or hunt animals for food. Harvest resources to build weapons and tools. Build a shelter to survive. Ride across a vast world and explore alone, or band together with other players to build entire settlements and fortified strongholds. Unleash your fury in savage, fast-paced combat and execute bloody and bone-crushing attacks that will see heads rolling and limbs flying. Fight other players to dominate the exiled lands, and even call upon the wrath of the heavens to aid you by sacrificing enemy players on the alters of the gods.

"What Funcom is doing with 'CONAN EXILES' is capturing the essence of Conan and his world," said Fredrik Malmberg, CEO of Conan Properties. "The fight for survival in Conan's savage world has been chronicled in comics, movies, and novels, and now you too will get to experience the same struggle to achieve domination over the exiled lands."

But will there be boobs? Or are boobs inappropriate for children?

Conan is inappropriate for children. Period.

The great shame is that almost nobody has read the original Robert E. Howard Conan stories and all they know of Conan are the movies or the comics, both of which really lack compared to the original stories. In the stories Conan never, ever, walked around without armor and yet all the portrayals we have of him is bare chested.

Since Howard's Conan stories are now in the public domain I recommend them to anyone who likes the fantasy genre.

I'm not dogging the books, I'm simply referring to the visual media wing of Conan. Comic books, video games, films... definitely not for children.

Ask yourself who's fault is that? Funcom or the Robert E. Howard estate for allowing the game to exist via a licensing agreement.

FunCom needs to replace whoever is working in their marketing department because I sincerely have no idea what this game is about. Neither the trailer nor the official website tells me anything. It's exceptionally vague. Here's what my mind tells me this game is:

- Age of Conan expansion?
- Conan "Farmville" game?
- A clone of Ark in the Conan setting?
- RPG game in an open world environment?
- Action RPG?
- multiplayer battle arena like Rune from 2000?
- A phone app game?
- MOBA?

...

That took only a day? I wonder if it is worth even using my unused key then.
Pretty sure he meant "call it a day" as a euphemism.

FYI it's the only area of the game with voice, afaik. They only spent any real time making the starter island, the first 20 levels. Then just added a level 70 (or whatever) cap, cause WOW had one. The quality dropped from about 80% to about 60%, transitioning from the starter isle to the main game. To make matters worst, instead of really fixing the game, they just add new content to making grinding even worst. You might skip this if you've got any good games to play.

Edit: Wait, isn't the game F2P now, so not sure you even need a key? Confused

Yup AOC almost was a good game my main complaints were:

Small maps/zones
easy mode travel, no effort to get anywhere in the game world
no death penalty. This was a big one, I remember fighting some Pirates to finish a quest and I realized that death only meant a 1 minute delay to re-spawn and I could simply charge in again and kill one of 16 Pirates, then die and spawn in to kill one of 15 Pirate and so on.
Funcom also talked about having silly mini games in it like drunken brawling and ax throwing(?) maybe a gambling game (I can't remember for sure). Game gets released and none of that is in the game and I'd bet to this day its never been added.

Well you missed out on a frustrating experience. Frustrating because there was so much potential there, forever to remain unrealized. The combat alone was pretty exciting in and of itself and relied a lot on a players personal skill instead of just on levels like every other copy & paste MMO out there. *sigh*
What about these days?
