Tom Clancy's The Division Beta This Week

The PC beta for Tom Clancy's The Division is getting underway on Friday, offering the chance to check out the upcoming third-person shooter (thanks Agent.X7). Word is participants can begin downloading the client now to prepare, and The Division FAQ has all the details. Here's the explanation on how to get in: "There are a limited number of guaranteed access codes for the beta. In order to receive one, you must pre-order Tom Clancy’s The Division for Xbox One, PlayStation®4 system, or PC from a participating retailer. Find a participating retailer by visiting thedivisiongame.com/buy. You can also choose to register for the waiting list, but this does not guarantee beta access."

I got a code for free via Nvidia, we'll see how it goes, my expectations are low but I'm interested.

It takes 5 shots to the head point blank to take someone down. Spam those guns, man!

Wait, they want me to test their game for them, and also pay for it after release?
Not even a 1/2 price copy for my hard work?

Get over it. I for one am happy for this. You and others seem to have forgotten what shooters were like before Counter Strike.

You don't seem to understand that there's no need for tactics and tactical 'riot' shields if a team of 4 elite gamers could just line up their shots and take care of ANY thread in a matter of seconds. It would also take away any necessity for character progression.

Somehow, this is hard to grasp for many of you. I imagine those people are between 16 and 23 years old and grew up with CS and CoD.

The original Ghost Recon games had character progression, and yet they were highly realistic shooters. Stop pigeon-holing the genre into this fallacy that RPG's/character progression must mean enemies have to be damage-sponges. Also, allow for the fact that people have different tastes, and age is not a factor in that regard.

This isn't meant to be a realistic shooter like most other Clancy games. Think of it more like an RPG with guns instead of swords.

(Also, the enemies scale to how many people are in your group. If you're playing solo, they have much less health and go down much faster.)

I am cautiously optimistic (Ubisoft after all), though looking forward to testing it out during the beta. I've watched a bunch of videos and it looks thoroughly enjoyable.

If you want it to be realistic, true character progression will solely depend on accuracy, recoil and range. It won't matter if you shoot an enemy in the eye with a handgun fit for housewives or an AK47. It's what ppl are used to because the either forgot or never played any shooter before CS or CoD. That's the only reason I mentioned age. I know everyone likes different shit. That's not the point.
