So now we're completely switching fields to the Hammonds? Sigh.

Yes, I think their arson sentences are completely justified because everything did is literally arson. They were trying to cover up illegal hunting by illegally lighting forest fires. If a firefighter had died putting out their illegal brush fire, would you be so sympathetic then? Of course not.

Arson on federal land carries a 5-year minimum sentence, but the Hammonds argued that was unconstitutional. A trial court sentenced both men to less than five years, but both the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court wound up sentencing the men to a full five-year sentence based on federal law. This is how law works. They appealed, they failed, they go to jail. There is absolutely no legitimate recourse for them here, which is why they aren't even contesting this new sentence anymore and will be reporting to jail as instructed.

The lands involved in the Hammonds case were not "stolen" from them by the government, so honestly... now your 3 posts make absolutely no sense when considered together. Are you actually whining about the arson charges or the Bureau of Land management not actually confiscating privately owned land? Or is there some third thing that you will come up with now? It's quite impossible to tell. In fact, please don't even bother to clarify... I just wanted you to know how little everything you have posted here correlates in any way. I'm not actually concerned if you don't understand the situation you keep blaming me for not understanding.

There are reasons why these area's exist in our country, and around the world. They are wildlife refuge's. I think they took this over because it was probably the most un-intrusive form of sit in protest. If they did this in a federal building or drove into town and took over the court house. FBI, ATF, State Police would be there and removing them by force in a matter of hours. They choose this and generally they come out looking super dumb.

Honestly its backwoods people doing backwoods things, and thinking like backwoods people. In otherwords the only world that they live in ends at the county line.

So what you're saying is its okay for him/you to generalizing but not me? Also I've already said that I don't support their occupy movement nor am I talking about the Bundys. Where did I say any of that? I am referring to the local family not the people going there to occupy the office of the BLM.

And if you think thier arson charges are legit then there are a large number of US National Park Services employees that need to be sent to prison for five years each after thier control burns got out of control and burned government owned lands/national park lands.

Why do people keep saying this? It isn't true at all.

Ranchers/farmers were bailed out by the government in the 30's and since then have been allowed to use the land anyway at a 90% discount. You could research it, but you chose to watch an unsourced youtube video instead.

So 100% of the ranchers / farmers here in the entire United States of America were all bailed out by the government back in the 1930's? OMG, why didn't you tell me sooner! So my great grandfather didn't lose all of his lands back during the Depression? I better call the rest of my relatives. So every farmer / rancher has been just renting these lands back from the United States government for 10%... since the 1930's, eh?

Oh, that video has sources listed if you could be so bothered to check.

He did not say "100%," "all," or "every."

I feel like every time someone makes a generalization on a video game forum people freak out and say "stop saying all!"

Ranchers are over.

The lands that they are actually contesting in this protest were appropriated in exactly the way I described. No one made any of the claims that you just pulled out of your ass Jack. This has little to nothing to do with the Oregon Nature Preserve they've taken over or the Hammonds arson sentencing that they hijacked for the PR... you do know that at least, right? The Bundy's have tried and failed to latch onto and escalate several government protests since their own stand-off.

Squatting and illegally working public lands for decades doesn't give you the right to demand it for free at gunpoint. The only reason these Bundy nutjobs are crying about it is because the government came down on them for not paying what they owed. Normal ranchers actually want to pay into what is a beneficially subsidized system for them.

You are free to explain the situation as you think you understand it, rather than just rambling like a lunatic.

One can only wonder why I hadn't ignored you already. Fixed!

Anytime I see someone use the word "libtard," (particularly in such intentional provocation) I immediately associate them with a level of ignorance that is difficult to achieve.

Solely because it's an embarrassing aggregation of the words "liberal" and "retard," and if you're still calling people "retards," today, you probably need to check yourself and maybe mature a little bit... go look in the mirror, and try reading about things on your own.

Not only that, but he complained about metrosexuals.

Him and his ilk are a perfect example of the what those clowns in Oregon are, ignorant and stupid. You can fix one, but not the other. Problem is when you're the latter you don't want to fix the former. People like that are a textbook example of people that should not be allowed to own any weapons at all. They should be treated as terrorists. Same as anyone with that "if you're not with us you're against us" extremist mentality.

One of the many problems with our society and the human race as a whole is that nobody has any desire to understand or cares to have empathy for those that they cannot or do not want to understand. Just because you live in your mother's basement doesn't mean everybody does.

These ranchers and others have owned these land for hundreds of years in some cases. It has been passed down generation to generation and they have experienced the government encroaching on their rights and seizing their lands piece by piece for decades... but you know better and they're all wackos now?

I don't support thier occupy movement but dismissing their claims because you can't be bothered to read the history seems crazy to me. Or you must not care about anyone else's rights either. Still it blows my mind how so many believe anything this government tells them. Yes, there is more to it than that. Research it. Don't just believe the wacko liberal media. If you do you must still believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy too?

The government isn't breaking any laws and they are not "running anyone off of their land" either.

The US government bought the land that these nutjobs are "occupying" from failing farms almost 100 years ago.

Their actual complaint is with the 40 year old Federal Land Policy and Management Act that stopped giving federally protected lands back to farmers. They are biting the hand that feeds them because they have simultaneously been allowed to use these federal lands for grazing for 10% of the cost of actually purchasing it.

This "stand-off" has practically nothing to do with the area they are occupying. They are trying to start a firefight with "the government" (which they purposely wanted women and children involved in) and turn themselves into martyrs, but no one actually cares.

Yeah, it's definitely about wackos. Cliven Bundy and his clan are "sovereign citizen" lunatics. This is well documented and is not a misrepresentation of their position at all. These are guys who, quite simply, decided they don't like the rules. Instead of trying to change the rules, they decided instead they should pretend the rules don't apply to them.

Sorry, that's not how the world works. The only reason they get away with it is because they are in the middle of nowhere and no one can be bothered since they aren't really bothering anyone. Not worth it to go in there and push them out. If anything, their continued defiance proves that the government, far from being tyrannical, is actually very lazy and often unwilling to act when push comes to shove.

They are nothing but dirty thieves who have been breaking the law for 20 years and aren't in jail.

Well said. +1
