PC Rise of the Tomb Raider on January 28

Following news that the PC edition of Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming this month, Square Enix announces January 28th is the official release date for the Windows version of Lara Croft's latest adventure. They also unveil details on the dustcatchers in a collector's edition that will set you back $149.99. Here's more on the plan:
Following Rise of the Tomb Raider’s highly successful release exclusively for Xbox One and Xbox 360, Square Enix® today announced that the game will be available for Windows 10 and Steam on January 28, 2016.

Bringing the game’s thrilling narrative and perilous environments to PC in stunning new detail, developers Crystal Dynamics® and Nixxes Software added numerous features, including Windows 10 support and 4K resolution. Rise of the Tomb Raider® was nominated for Best Action/Adventure for The Game Awards and follows the critically acclaimed, award-winning Tomb Raider®.

“The PC release of Rise of the Tomb Raider continues the positive momentum from our highly successful partnership and collaboration with Microsoft for the launch on Xbox One and Xbox 360,” said Scot Amos co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics.

“PC players are a passionate, devoted audience and we know they’ll embrace the version created for their systems,” said Ron Rosenberg, co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics.

After uncovering an ancient mystery, Lara must explore the most treacherous and remote regions of Siberia to find the secret of immortality before a ruthless organization known as Trinity. Lara must use her wits and survival skills, form new alliances, and ultimately embrace her destiny as the Tomb Raider. Experience high-octane action moments, conquer beautifully hostile environments, engage in brutal guerilla combat, and explore awe-inspiring deadly tombs in the evolution of survival action. In “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” Lara becomes more than a survivor as she embarks on her first Tomb Raiding expedition.

The PC version of Rise of the Tomb Raider will be available as a digital download via Steam®, the Windows Store, Amazon™, the Square Enix e-store and other major retailers – both in-store and online. Standard edition pricing is $59.99. The Digital Deluxe edition is $89.99 and includes a Season Pass to nearly all current and future DLC.

A Collector’s Edition, which includes the Digital Deluxe version of the game, a 12-inch Lara Croft® statue, replicas of Lara’s journal and jade necklace, and a steel case, will also be available from the Square Enix e-store for $149.99.

The exclusivity bullshit should not be rewarded. If the platform holder (Microsoft) shows that little respect for their very own Windows-PC customers then they do not deserve to be rewarded with a preorder or anywhere near full price purchase for their sleazy, treacherous, backstabbing asshole ways.

But I know I'm preaching to the choir. Y'all rushed head over heels to buy GTA V when it finally became available for PC so go right ahead and preorder RotTR as fast as you can. It will really help PC gaming if you do so and we will be rewarded with more great console exclusivity deals in the future. It's going to be totally awesome!

Do you think not buying it will encourage them to focus more on the PC? Or is this like GTA5 where you said people should buy the console version to tell Rockstar that they should put more emphasis on the PC market, very much an outside-the-box suggestion.

My i7-6700K Skylake will have one of his first runs with a hot chick. This is good.

Yup, me too. I finally had to make the jump and begrudgingly went with the 6700k platform, and now my 2600k box is running my 2nd monitor. And may i say thus far it's nice not having to deal with dual monitor quirkiness by simply having a 2nd box run the 2nd monitor? Although i do feel like a complete spoiled rotten nerd having two keyboards on the desk now..

I'll buy Rise of the TR again day one because i'm a weak, pathetic man child. And because playing it on Xbox One has been a painful experience with the terrible anti-aliasing and sub-30fps screen tearing in order for them to hit 1080p on their fucking turd box..

I normally don't regret buying a console, but at this point the X1 is fast becoming a complete loss with any and all exclusives coming to Windows. I can say for me the Xbox One is nothing more than a half decent bluray player i don't need, at best..

Edit: After reading my post, i DO sound like a spoiled braggart.. But the point being, exclusives are frustrating, but if you're not an idiot like me and you passed on buying an Xbox One, it's refreshing more games are coming to the PC platform(buggy ports aside)for a much better experience.

Sigh.

1) This is not a Windows 10 exclusive.
2) MS has nothing to do with the PC version. It is being published by Square.

Research. It is a good thing to do.

ad 1) I did not say it's a Win 10 exclusive. It is obviously a (timed) Shitbox exclusive, however.

ad 2) MS has nothing to do with the PC version? Right. Except for paying off Squeenix to keep it Shitbox exclusive for a couple months. Also, MS always has something to do with every single Windows-PC release by default since they are the platform holder so unless a game is a Mac or Linux exclusive then MS is always involved in every PC release.

So you might want to take your own advice re the whole research stuff...

As other posts have noted it is not exclusive to Win 10. Just pointing out how Win 10 was unnaturally "stressed" as something like a major feature on the official site instead of it saying for Windows alone without the number 10 associated with it.

Square was paid for limited exclusivity on XB1, that is all. I am sure they were given some nudges to stress Windows 10 and the game since MS has nothing to offer Win 10 from their studios as exclusives that anyone would go out of their way to install Win 10 for it. Even this game wouldn't do it, but it's a big enough release to want it to mention Win 10 and hope some more gullible people will sign over their souls err data to get it for free.

I was thinking of grabbing this right away, but I'm still plugging away at Fallout 4, then I plan on finally getting to Divinity: Original Sin and then Pillars of Eternity w/ the White March expansions. Add in Just Cause 3 and Dragon's Dogma, and at that point I might as well wait for the summer sale. It is a great game, but I'm not sure I will be replaying it soon enough to justify grabbing it right away.

Square should know better than make it Win 10 Exclusive. They'd lose a lot of buyers if it was. Though you have to hand it to MS for desperately trying to make it sound like Win 10 is somehow special for the game lol.

Bah, I'm sad! I'm a big fan of the series (even through the hard times) and this will be the first TR I won't play shortly after release. I'm moving to Korea Feb 1st and it'll be at least a year of playing laptop nomad ...

Absolutely cannot wait to downgrade from a jaw-dropping, real-looking and memorable 3D experience at 60fps to a flat, lifeless 4k slideshow.

Not.

Yeah I caught that, it's just the wording is wonky.

"..including Windows 10 support and 4K resolution"

You kind of assume a given game will work on all currently supported Windows OS'es. Maybe just marketing spin, I guess.

How long did we wait for GTA V? This wasn't long of a wait. With a little rewording they could have just said the PC port is delayed by 2'ish months, but then MS happened.

What's more interesting is that it sounds like this is a Windows 10 only..?
