Funcom is excited to announce that the company has entered into an agreement with Conan Properties, making it the preferred partner for all PC and console games based on the 'Conan the Barbarian' brand and the world of Hyboria. The two companies have already enjoyed a long and prosperous relationship, having successfully brought to market Funcom's critically acclaimed massively multiplayer online game 'Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures' back in 2008.
"We are tremendously excited to be strengthening our relationship with Conan Properties," said Funcom CEO Rui Casais. "'Conan the Barbarian' is undoubtedly one of the world's greatest and most recognizable fantasy heroes, and as game developers, working with such a character and being able to draw from the fantastically detailed world of Hyboria is nothing short of a dream come true."
As Funcom communicated earlier this year, the company will be announcing three new games in 2016. The first of these games will be based on the 'Conan the Barbarian' brand and will be announced to the public in January next year.
"Working with Funcom through the years has been a rewarding and very enjoyable journey," said Fredrik Malmberg, CEO of Conan Properties. "Making them our preferred partner for all PC and console games based on 'Conan the! Barbarian' is the next step on that great journey. Funcom has shown they are more than capable of managing the rich heritage of Conan and to breathe new life into the world of Hyboria, and we are thrilled to be working together on new, exciting projects."

I doubt this is an MMOG, a single player RPG or 'Rune'-inspired title could be awesome. Say what you will about the MMOG, Funcom did a great job capturing the atmosphere, attitude and lore of Robert E. Howard's original works. Better than the vast majority of games based on classic IP's.

Almost everyone liked the starter island, but once you left it went down hill fast. Iirc, I don't think it did nearly as well as LotR, when it went F2P.
What? the starter island was dull, both Cimmeria and Stygia where a Conan fan's wet dream. The atmosphere in AOC was incredible.
The dungeons where AWESOME! The FFA dungeons where amazing!
I bet its gonna be a F2P moba![]()
Yeah the starter island was kind of boring, it was interesting enough to get through the first time anyway.
I remember when my friends and I played at launch. We found a dungeon and grouped up to run it. We walked in and the whole dungeon was empty hallways. We reached the end were there was this pit and we jumped in to explore it. It was a dead end with no way to get out. We had to file a GM ticket to get out which took a day for a response.
So much unfinished work at launch. And crap leveling 30-50 (I think that was the range?) was hard as hell because there was no content in that level range for months.
It was a lot better when I returned for F2P, but it was still the same old MMO grind but this time with finished content.

Iirc, it's not real F2P like Guild Wars 2 or LotRO, limited more like SWTOR to make you pay even if your not monthly.Acleacius wrote on Dec 18, 2015, 14:38:Even for free? Either way, I doubt I will every play it due to BUSY life (still haven't seen Ant-Man, SW:TFA, etc. :P).Ant wrote on Dec 18, 2015, 14:26:I would advise against it, unless your a glutton for punishment!
I still haven't played it.![]()

Since Conan was written in 1932, isn't it and its character out of copyright and in the public domain now?
If I'm not mistaken, all the original work by Robert E. Howard is now public domain. However the pastiches from other authors that came from his work are not.

Actually, something along the lines of Shadows of Mordor would fit well with Conan.
Just replace all the Wraith-fueled magic with Cimmerian combat badassery.
