A shame you feel this way about GB. The two Borderlands games are the only FPS games I've played start to finish in the past 10 years, other than HL2 and COD:MW1.

This looks like a mix between Ground Control and Homeworld which were two of my favorite RTS games so I'm definitely looking forward to this! I already have the Homeworld Remastered Collection so I get 20% off of the pre-order for this.

I hope they have more similar games in the works or at least in the planning stages.

As someone who read the whole back story in the original game's manual, this is kind of exciting.

Oh this is not a successor, spiritual or otherwise, its a prequel. Some of you older codgers may remember the crashed space ship in the desert of the original game?

This game is about the conflict that followed that discovery as the different factions/nations/clans fought for supremacy and the eventual unification of the planet.

The reason why its on a planet and not in space, is because the story is set on a planet and the nations didn't really make much use of space before finding that generation ship.

I may get this game for the story/atmosphere/lore alone. It reminds of Heavy Gear of all things...this is a good thing.
I have a nifty blue line!

None of those examples are "giving up on space", the planets are just an extra layer to the existing gameplay.

However, I do think that the move to ground based combat in this title is disappointing, regardless of whether it's a spinoff or whatever you want to call it.

I loved all the Homeworld games because they were in space, ie. 6 degrees of freedom. Terrestrial combat is just so lame compared to space.

Parts of the video are at least a decade old. This property has been kicking around for years.

I will wait for the release and see what real players make of it first, be we allready have tons of surface RTS that are quite good.

It's Gearbox, so I'm surprised. Usually their trailers look great and the games suck

To be honest, Homeworld 2 is what it is, and a ground based Homeworld could be just as interesting, if not more... but did anyone else notice the horribad GAME performance in that trailer? A month before release, and that fancy game doesn't run smooth in a trailer?

Well, at least there is a single-player campaign. It says there are 13 missions. So many other RTS titles these days seem to skip the SP campaign.

Really? Is that including MOBAs? Other than those I thought RTS games were still usually SP heavy. I know StarCraft 2 had a campaign, at least.

I am definitely a Homeworld fanboy. It was my original "Favorite RTS of all time" when it released and I put countless hours into it. To me Homeworld is epic sci fi with a good story and very tight unit management. It doesn't have to be in space.

I have been following BBI since they first announced Hardware: Shipbreakers and have been salivating for this "Spiritual Successor" ever since I heard the same narrator for Homeworld in the original gameplay teasers.

This game has been in the works for years before Gearbox bought Homeworld and allowed them the rights to use the name and make it an actual part of the universe (Which I highly respect Gearbox for doing, honestly) You can't expect them to just drop what they had been working on and make a space game. There is nothing wrong with this being part of the universe.

ESPECIALLY since they took this opportunity to set the game on Kharak, which means it may be a prequel, which means the game would most possibly be about the Heresy Wars and the discovery of the Khar-Toba (The ship where they find the Hyperspace Core) which leads to the creation of the Kushan Mothership. Leading to the first Homeworld game, obviously.

Don't be so closed minded just because it is set on the ground.

Ditto to everything you've said. If you're a Homeworld fan, then you've already known for a long time that this is a prequel and is set many decades before the events of the first Homeworld. You also already know that Blackbird Interactive, a big chunk of the guys behind HW1 and HW2, have been working on this for years now and that Gearbox is only the publisher.

I preordered this about five minutes ago. I wish they had a Collector's Edition like HWRM. I would love to have a model of one of the original freighters that crash landed on Kharak to match my Mothership model.

People expect NOTHING, because this game was nearly invisible until now. And now you can clearly see that it is a typical "flat" RTS. And its not called Homeworld 3 or Homeworld 4

The name Homeworld itself evokes space based battles, it doesn't matter if there's a numeral after it or not. Like I said, people familiar with the series will hear about it and then once they find out it's drastically different will be disappointed.

Wrong.

There's nothing incorrect about what I've said. All past three Homeworld games have been 3D space rts's, it's not illogical to think that fans will expect this to have the same gameplay.

This game stopped being a spiritual successor the moment they changed the mechanics, slapping the Homeworld name on it doesn't change that. It's more of a spin-off than anything.

50 USD? You pay more than the UK - it was 29.99 GBP (44 USD) here or 23.99 GBP (35.97 USD) if you've got Homeworld Remastered already in your steam library.

Game looks pretty cool tho - air units more like Total Annihilation and not like most RTS's where they are land units suspended 10 meters above the ground.
