(Now and again I watch ViaSAT History which, unlike the History channel, has some great documentaries)

You mean like the documentary where the Nazis tried to weaponize the Loch Ness monster, but the queen and her army of lizard people stopped them, so they had to build a mechanical megalodon instead, so some people believe could have maybe happened?

Yes, that would be the History channel, the one I don't watch.
I have a nifty blue line!

Im still paying for cable. Main reason being, they are my internet providers and fairly reliable and cheap at that. (Flat rate, no throttling, no extra bandwidth fees). The catch being that you need to have a TV package in addition to the Internet. So I just have the cheapest TV package, which I basically almost never watch. And, on top of that, you don't have to worry about whatever backdoors may be installed by the ISPs on their shit equipment.

Unless you're the kind of person who likes being penetrated in the back door. Some do. Just sayin'

Well they're doing something fucked up if my mom is looking to cancel cable, and she loves her TV. She is in her mid-60's now, and finds that she really only watches TCM and maybe a little Home & Garden or whatever the hell they call themselves now. I haven't had cable at home since 2002, the last time I watched TV was when I was in the US back ~3 years ago and all it was, was shit, shit, shit and more shit.

I've not paid for cable TV since 2007 either. As others have pointed out between gaming and streaming services most of my entertainment needs are met. It's only $20 more for TV and slightly faster service, but it's probably more with fees. I bought my own cable modem as well which has paid for itself and then some when you consider lame equipment rental fees.

Same here. 10 years ago.

I think it's easier for gamers, as TV isn't the primary source of entertainment.

For me, the fact that my parents (whom are in their late 60s) cut cable entirely and get all their content via an Xbox One and an HTPC that I built for them tells me a lot about the state of the cable industry. When you have the Boomers cutting out your service because their bill for the 5 channels they watch regularly (due to your shitty "package" system and inability to offer an ala carte service) is over $100 NOT counting all the bullshit, made up "fees" you tack on, then the cable industry is absolutely fucking clueless. Between my Amazon Prime account, and their Hulu and Netflix accounts, they've got access to all their favorite content and new movies releases for less than 25% of their former cable bill.

The sad part is that when cable companies finally pull their head out of their collective asses and figure this out, they will jack up the rates of their internet services and start slapping draconian data caps on its usage so they can attempt to recover that lost revenue. Given how bought and paid for the politicians are by these very same cable companies, there will be no market competition to keep these assholes' prices in check as they will literally be the only game in town (or one of two).

I currently have a tivo on a broadcast antenna and an Xbox one using a Hulu sub, netflix sub and occasionally amazon. We've stopped using the tivo almost completely. It used to be a treat to be able to watch TV without commercials but now it's available from so many places.

Football is about the only thing I watch on the "tv" anymore and I tape snl just in case it's good. I was taping the colbert show but he puts everything on YouTube so I just watch those and move on.

Online content is exploding and there are only so many hours in the day. It's easy to fill that little 2 hour block each day when u want to "veg" out.

Considering I have paid for cable one time in my life to watch Farscape, I would say it's not faster than I think. (One season of Farscape to try to keep it on the air cost me more than the bluray set of the whole show.)

I dunno, I never would get Cable TV at all now. My entertainment comes off Youtube and a streaming service for TV/film watching. Also Broadcast for local news and that's free as it is. Aside from internet service, or if you HAVE to have your sports on demand in HD as it happens, having cable is kinda useless in my view.
