I actual kind of miss flash sales and voting. There was really something fucked up (yet fun) about rolling over in bed and checking steam at 2am.

Absolutely! The old Steam sales where each game had mini events where you had to do certain things to win coal or other game prizes was great!

I heard that refunds are the reason Flash Sales are gone, unfortunately. Seeing a lower price is a valid reason to request a refund from Steam. So to avoid hundreds of thousands of people requesting refunds they just removed Flash Sales.

This is super boring and really removes some of the magic of Steam Sales, in my opinion. I'm pretty bummed.

If I remember right their last Fall sale didn't have much player input either. The last winter cookie clicker thing was fun for a couple days though, but I feel like they are getting tired of giving anything out and watching all the script kiddies try to take advantage. Every year they have to hotfix the sale mechanic because people break something.

Just got Shogun 2 and Kentucky Route Zero season pass on the cheap. Now just have to find the time, it's going to take me years to play all the games I've bought this year. I still have Witcher 3 expansion to play, still have a ways to go on X-COM, Homeworld: Remastered, Tales from Borderlands, Ori, Batman Arkham City, Dark Souls 2, still gotta finish Wasteland 2, Mad Max (probably never finish that one), stopped playing Metal Gear Solid V and I know I have a shit ton to do in there - playing too much Fallout 4. Oh yeah, still have to play Legacy of the Void as well. Jesus.

Christ, they just get lazier every year don't they? Now no flash sales or games? They haven't been aggressive on pricing in forever. Other services just need to be slightly more aggressive than Steam on these things to topple them but they can't seem to manage it, even when it's direct from the publisher. How retarded is that? It would be so simple to undercut them and steal all that business, but they're too stupid and greedy not to.

Still, there are some good deals on Uplay, Origin, et al. as well.

I wish Dragon Age Inquisition was on Steam. It's on sale for 14.99 which is awesome but I absolutely hate Origin and anything to do with EA.

Those deals are terrible. I guess with the new refund system that means no more flash deals.

Also to note the DLC for Inquisition is on sale too. It's bloody f'ing rare for Bioware DLC to go on sale, though this game doesn't use those annoying "Bioware points" so hopefully it's a positive change in that policy.

If refunds really are the issue here then I hope that someone at Valve removes their finger from their bunghole and gets to work on a very simple implementation kind of like the Amazon pre-order price guarantee.

Just make it so every game bought during a sale period is checked against the lowest price between dates x and y and then charge people the lowest price by returning whatever difference as Steam wallet credit.

This would take a doped college kid about a day to code properly. Why can't Valve be bothered with doing the most simple shit? Has all the sugar and fat really paralyzed Gabe's brain to the point of a flatline?

I think it is more "we don't want to put in all of the extra man hours" into all the bs they do every year. I prefer this. Just give me your best prices and I will buy what I want.

Not really lazy, probably more common sense.

The gimmicks are annoying and are just abused.

Those were reserved for the bigger winter and summer sales this is just the fall sale. I do miss the early sale days when they got a bunch of game devs to put in achievements to their games for the event.

I won't complain if they get rid of flash sales for the winter/summer sale. Everyone learned to wait until the last day to buy games anyway, and I hated it when a game I wanted went up on a flash sale and I missed it.

Since they started doing the special cards for summer and winter sales the past couple of years, I've only bought games during the summer and winter sales. It's like having a little bit of an extra discount after you sell them. Elite Dangerous is kind of tempting for $15.

Though I'm sure people are getting some of the deals they are happy with. I find this sale to be one of the weakest. Here's hoping the Christmas event has something a bit better then 10% off crap. So annoying.
