Firefall Developer Layoffs

The floors are running red at Firefall developer Red5, reports MMORPG.com, where this began as an unverified report from an ex-employee before Red5 confirmed the news (thanks Gamasutra). We will not attempt to interpret the official statement on what this means to the MMORPG:
"The organization optimization was due to our strategy modification, which includes empowering the support to the operation in various global markets and the upcoming PS4 project. Doing so requires specific skill sets and experiences. Red 5 will continue its commitment to developing AAA games and bringing the best game experience to its audiences.

We appreciate your inquiry and interest in Red 5 Studios and Firefall as we take it worldwide on multiple platforms."

Another founder here, what started off looking great got fucking lost up Red 5's asses...

Esports, flat progression, turning everything in to a grind, they slowly but surely ground down any enthusiasm people had for the game.

I remember the last time I put up the PAX 2010 (iirc) footage first showing thumping and a Chosen invasion in ~2013, and the overwhelming response from current players was "man, that looks so much better than what we're playing now"...

Took a perfectly good idea and broke the shit out of it, and by the time they got back to the vicinity of where they started, most of the alpha/early beta players had given up already. Textbook way to fucking something up.

Played it for a while and actually am a founder; however, they couldn't figure out loot drops per person and instead everyone has to run in and fight for loot which is just ridiculous. Might not be #1 still but for a very long time this was the #1 desired feature and the devs wouldn't even respond with a "we're trying" or "we're thinking about it". They just pretended like it didn't exist.

Wow, that is awful.

Did they throw darts at the New Office Cliché boards, or did they break out the tumbler to put that sentence together?
They forgot to use the word "synergy"

Yah I played since there wasnt even a functional map...At start it showed the promise of a good hardcore game but some idiots changed all each time toward casual console kids so they ended up with a generic shooter with normal level up...

Still between Defiance, Planetside 2, MWO and rest Firefall has some good points and it could have a place but not with same idiots who took only bad decisions each time when they were forced to

I wanted to like this game, but try as I might... Isn't the main mechanic defending mining equipment while waves of enemies attack?

Thumping was pretty much the only thing to do back in the day, yeah, but in the past couple years they've added a ton of other content. New zones with some pretty epic cooperative events, story quests, randomly-generated hub quests, instanced raid-like missions... But Paco is more or less correct, they've completely redesigned character progression so many times that veteran players were alienated and new players were utterly confused.

The game had so much potential, but mismanagement and office drama crippled development, and by the time they sort of got their shit together, it was too late, they missed their opportunity.

Yeah, why not lay off the corporate communications tool first? Do you really need to pay someone to write press releases that say nothing.
