Out of the Blue

Today is the 30th anniversary of the release of Windows version 1.0, Microsoft's initial baby step into the world of the GUI. To remind us of how far they've come, Network World dug up this launch video from the time, showing Steve Ballmer at his wackiest, which is saying something. And man did they pack in the free features for that initial release, huh? The MS-DOS Executive, a clock, a control panel, and a print spooler? Yeah boy!

On the downside there's no chance for a game to go from discount to super discount

Not happy about this at all. My 85% off or bust mentality to buying games on Steam may be coming to an end. It also doesn't make much sense to run the sales for as long as they were under this new system... so I suspect that they will not even be "week long" sales in the future.

Edit: Oooh... the new Steam refund system is probably why. There would be huge waves of returns now every time a game had a lower discount later in the week.

Have always been a Bowie fan, but this is a true WTF.

He is starting to look like Leonard Nimoy in his last years.

Still has the moves though.

Hmm not sure how I feel about that. No more game voting? On the downside there's no chance for a game to go from discount to super discount. On the upside no need to check Steam every hour.

OS/2 and GeOS were both vastly superior to the competing versions of Windows. GeOS basically lost out because they couldn't get a dev kit out in a reasonable amount of time, but OS/2 lost due to MS's illegal tactics. I think I'll be forever pissed off about being stuck with the inferior option.

Yah, but coming from AmigaOS, Windows was quite unimpressive.

I don't complain about "too much" to watch because sooner or later there will be a drought.

I've been thinking that the last few years, but I've not seen it happen yet. If anything, it's gotten worse (IE more content, less time).

I don't complain about "too much" to watch because sooner or later there will be a drought. When that happens I can just go back and catch up on some of the things I am skipping due to a lack of time. If the drought takes long enough, maybe I will even raise my standards, but I wouldn't count on it. I have had pretty low standards for over 40 years, I don't see that changing much.

The Golden Age- Is there just too much TV? Yeah.

No doubt! It's hard to juggle it all, and keep up with what's next.

Also, Jessica Jones started today, and reviews have been good.
