Fallout 4 Shipped 12M on Day One

Bethesda Softworks announces the "successful" launch of Fallout 4, and by successful, they mean that the post-apocalyptic RPG sequel shipped about 12 million units its first day of availability, though they don't state how many copies were sold. They also say this represents "record" sales, though they do not report any specific record the game has broken. "We’re extremely proud of Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda Game Studios, and his experienced team of developers for their talent and dedication in creating this extraordinary game," said Vlatko Andonov, President of Bethesda Softworks. "Fallout 4 is a masterpiece in game development and storytelling, providing fans hundreds of hours of fun as they explore and are challenged by this fascinating, beautifully crafted world." Here's what they say about the release:
Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax® Media company, today announced that its award-winning game, Fallout® 4, is generating record sales at retail outlets and via digital download for Xbox One, PlayStation® 4 computer entertainment system and PC. Bethesda launched with approximately 12 million units worldwide to meet day one demand, representing sales in excess of $750 million. The collector’s edition, the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy™ Edition, sold out within hours of its announced availability.

Major retailers have informed Bethesda of the tremendous consumer interest in Fallout 4, with some noting it was the most pre-ordered game this year. In addition, the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition was the fastest-selling collector’s edition of any game in history at leading retailers. Following the release, Bethesda was advised that launch day sales at some of the leading retail chains were the largest of any game released this year. Bethesda is now shipping more Fallout 4 units to retailers to meet ongoing market demand.

Digital sales of Fallout 4 are also breaking records. On Steam, Fallout 4 became the number one game played, surpassing the previous record for concurrent play with over 470,000 Fallout players. The companion app, Fallout Pip-Boy, became the number one game on the iTunes App Store. Fallout 4 also set the record as the most viewed game launch of all 2015 games, according to Twitch.

You can obviously insult Krovven by saying he's a wart. Where is the line drawn, Blue? A... fucking.. ward? Maybe? An idiot wart? A fucking idiot wart? A fucking idiot?

You know what my theory is? And I could be wrong, of course. But I think some pussies here report to you when they're being confronted for being assholes. You don't wanna ignore the reports, so you remove the comment they report.

This or that, Verno just insulted Krovven. Act on it? =)

Yeah that's real classy. You broke the rules around here for the umpteenth time and you abuse the guy who provides the free community and inexplicably tolerates your inane childish behavior.

People are trying to talk about Fallout 4, not stroke your nerd ego with its fake online rambo persona.

Are there any other high population areas outside of Diamond City? I'm a bit disappointed with the game world currently. There is a lot to do but I figured there would be more at least a few quest areas with lots of NPCs.

True I keep hearing redguards and imperials ...

Why don't actors create several different pitched voices (or otherwise effect altered) for themselves ?...

So use your brain and say the same thing without those words in them. You were just picking a little tiff with someone that you don't like so don't pretend to take the high ground. If it's so bad then take a fuckin hike and stop boring us with your high school drama.

Shit actually about the game: I just found The Giver and it does not disappoint. Lots of cool uniques in this game, the loot and equipment modding system is a big step up from New Vegas. I'm worried I'm going to totally break the game soon but that's part of the fun with Bethesda titles.

Yeah, the dialogue system is terrible, especially when the option that's normally the "sarcastic" option suddenly turns into a legitimate question for more information, and you have to try to figure that out from a single word.

It's a really, REALLY bad system. And it's a shame, because they've done a much better job with their dialogue writing, and especially with their voice actors. I loved the whole thing at Diamond City (secret) between Piper and the mayor. The voice actress sold it very well, really made me want to figure out what it was that she'd written about him.

As far as I can tell there are NO stat checks in the game outside of Charisma and dialogue. So I took high int for that reason for bonus XP but it makes things like mentats seem pointless. Also charisma being taken off alcohol is weird because you can jump put on clothes for speech checks now, the few that I've seen.

Aside from that my only real beef with the game is the dialogue system itself. It's adequate but the RP options are more limited. There have been several quests where I wanted more options or felt like the default responses were too homogenized. I guess that's what happens when you need voice for everything.

It's a bit perplexing that with all of the other improvements they made they backslid so far on dialogue/stat checks. Oh well, the rest of the game is pretty damned fun. I only paid like $38 too thanks to an early GMG preorder.

Your entire argument seems to be based on their financial success from FO3 and Skyrim.

My entire argument is based on the fact that he made an inane statement. He said, LITERALLY, that "not excelling at being a compelling 'rpg' is definitely a problem I see for the future of Bethesda games."

To which I responded that the more they dumb down their games, the more they sell of them. So the idea that this style of creating games will cause problems for them is born by exactly zero facts.

Is it not allowed to be critical of popular games that their developer never seems to learn from or improve upon their poorly designed and often buggy systems?

Never said that. Oh, look, I in fact said that I can understand that people are disappointed by the dumbing down of Bethesda's games. See where I said that? It helps if you learn how to read before getting involved in a discussion.

"We sold 50 million, so we don't need to fix bugs or make our UI better." It's a fucking stupid argument.

I agree, but it's not an argument I'm actually making. It's one you're pretending I'm making so you can bleat about it. Here's a link to help you understand what this is called. You may want to try avoiding it in the future.

So yeah, here's some tips for Fallout 4 that I've found or read about:

- Pressing the E key is the same as pressing the Enter key in most prompts.

- Holding down Shift and using WASD is the same as using the arrow keys in certain menus. Very handy in Build mode.

- Holding down the E key when you have an object selected in Build mode will allow you to use the mouse wheel to raise/lower the object as well as decrease the spin and movement speed of said object.

- Dogmeat (and other companions) can equip certain gear if you trade it with him and get him to equip it (T key). From a quick test, so far Dogmeat can equip welding goggles, bandanas and various dog collars. Saw a screenshot of him armored up so some armors might work.

- Holding down Tab turns on the Pipboy light/Power Armor Headlamp.

- Vegetable Starch is the answer for all your Adhesive needs.

Good list. Most I had already figured out. This is the kind of stuff that is just baffling as to how Bethesda never explains these things.

Another is while viewing the Pip Boy, tap Right Mouse to zoom in slightly, tapping again zooms out.

Holding down Right Mouse Button while in this view and moving the mouse around...moves his whole arm around. I don't know what purpose this serves, just something I came across by accident last night.

Try to remember what you said, it helps when you attempt to make a point.

Way to be an ass though.

Quit whining. You've been vomiting on every Fallout 4 thread from the top of your precious little ivory tower on how much more advanced you are than all the plebes that are actually having fun in the game. Then when you get called out on your nonsensical statements re: Bethesda, waaaaah mommy.

Fallout 3 outsold Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics combined. Fallout 4 has already outsold FO3. Skyrim has outsold both FO3 and FO4 combined. (for now)

That you personally are disappointed that FO3 and 4 have little to do with FO1 and 2 is understandable. I don't particularly share that viewpoint, but I can see why people would feel that way. Same for Skyrim when compared to Morrowind.

But quit it with your inane statements how this is somehow a bad decision on Bethesda's part. They can't hear you over the piles of money clogging up their ears anyway.

Well bit the bullet the other day based and managed to spend about two hours playing it. Working a book fair this past week so Ill only get a proper chance to delve in next week. Here is my little review. So far so average. That's about it.

Things I like:

Run and gun is a thing now. After editing the FOV and getting rid of the horrible mouse acceleration you can play the game that way and it is quite decent.
VATS also feels better somehow compared to the previous versions.
The simplification of the perks tree actually works in the games favor.
The world looks cool, not Witcher3 awesome cool, but much better than F3 and NV.
The power armor is almost godly and I have to figure out how to do proper melee in it as a mostly melee and heavy weapons oriented bruiser but I like that you can't really use it forever now.
Runs great (once I managed to get it to run)

Things I dislike:

Had to google how to get it to even run. For some reason only runs in borderless window.
Terrible writing. Seriously Bethesda, try harder you fail at this at this shit every time. I hope this gets better as I play more and meet some grey/nasty characters.
Bland atmosphere, and some gimmicky gameplay.
Terrible dialogue choices that are almost always the same 4 shitty replies and that so far affect all conversations the same way. As bad as Mass Effect.
Laser musket. Seriously, wtf? Does every game have to have steampunk influence now? I blame Bioshock for this shit.

All in all so far I would rate it 7/10. Better than F3, worse than F:NV.
I have a nifty blue line!
