While it is generally assumed that
Overwatch will be a free-to-play game,
Blizzard has never committed to a business model for their upcoming first-person
shooter. Now an unconfirmed
report on Kotaku states that the game is coming to consoles, saying that
GameStop informs them they are accepting Overwatch preorders for Windows, Xbox
One, and PlayStation 4. Blizzard does offer a boxed version of the F2P
Heroes
of the Storm for $20.00, but according to their GameStop source, the
price tag on Overwatch is apparently $60.00.
Update: An update to the
Kotaku article shows a Blizzard splash page advertising preorders of boxed
copies of the game confirming the game is coming to current-gen consoles and PC
at retail, though this is labeled the "Origins Edition" and still could be a
starter collection for a free-to-play game. The listing says all the content shown is expected by June 21, 2016.
