Overwatch Not F2P? [Nov 05, 2015, 6:29 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
While it is generally assumed that Overwatch will be a free-to-play game,
Blizzard has never committed to a business model for their upcoming first-person
shooter. Now an unconfirmed
report on Kotaku states that the game is coming to consoles, saying that
GameStop informs them they are accepting Overwatch preorders for Windows, Xbox
One, and PlayStation 4. Blizzard does offer a boxed version of the F2P Heroes
of the Storm for $20.00, but according to their GameStop source, the
price tag on Overwatch is apparently $60.00. Update: An update to the
Kotaku article shows a Blizzard splash page advertising preorders of boxed
copies of the game confirming the game is coming to current-gen consoles and PC
at retail, though this is labeled the "Origins Edition" and still could be a
starter collection for a free-to-play game. The listing says all the content shown is expected by June 21, 2016.

When changes happen gamers get very grumpy. When the entire landscape of gaming changes very rapidly gamers lose their shit. Unfortunately these posts are a side effect of gamers being unable to reconcile these changes.

If you think Blizzard won't still end up charging $$$ for additional skins and heroes down the road, you are fooling yourself.
It is Blizzard though so it is possible that you might get some new heroes or skins for free or they will just keep the current hero pool stable like TF2, but I wouldn't bet on it. In 6 months time I'm sure you'll see the microtransactions start to move in.

They *should* charge money. They're Blizzard, pretty much the only developer to have their own conference (or is QuakeCon still a thing?). F2P is for developers with no faith in their product or who are keen to gouge customers, nothing more. TF2 went F2P in late life and wasn't designed that way from the outset, and is the exception to the rule.
Overwatch doesn't need to be successful on the PC where it is going to be competing with a horde of MOBAs. I think it still can be, but it isn't necessary. PS4 is wide open for this type of game.

Uh no, by speaking out against it you sour the pot more (especially when the person doing so is equally negative and nasty). If you want positivity here start by being positive and friendly and don't engage people who are obviously not. In the end this forum is like a river, you can pick and choose where to jump in, but you aren't going to change the flow. You can however start a new river-arm
If you don't offer a starting point for positivity then nothing will happen. In fact even I find this negative lately very odd, it's like we have posters here who actually hate gaming.. Even when I don't like a game, usually I actually played it in-depth before going off on tangential rants...

Okay, so this should be $60 retail + $9.99 monthly subscription + $20 in-game store microtransactions + online only (servers going down in 5 years or so or 6 months after the release of Overwatch 2 in 3 years). Yes, I'm sure this will sell like sliced bread fresh from the oven because it has an ActicBlizz label on it.

Well this is interesting. I guess everyone assumed Overwatch would be F2P because Blizzard's last two games were F2P and they are wildly successful. Also there is a kind of Team Fortressy feel to the game, and that game went F2P ages ago. I'm definitely not going to be paying full price for this.

Yeah $60 for a multiplayer only, servers will probably be empty in a few months game just doesn't seem that good of a value. I'd rather play the new UT, It looks much better anyway and the price is right.

$60 for a mp only game with a couple modes is poor value. Not saying it wouldn't be worth it in the end, but people expect a campaign and other single player / co-op content for a full price boxed copy.
