Steam Survey Shows Win10 Advances

The Steam Hardware & Software Survey Page now reflects the October results of this poll of hardware used to play games on Valve's Steam service. Yahoo! Finance (by way of WinBeta) notes that Windows 10 "soars" to nearly 28 percent this time around, an increase of 2.43% for the 64-bit version and 1.00% for the 32-bit version in just a single month. Windows 7 remains the dominant OS, but Windows 10 usage has now considerably surpassed Windows 8.x on Steam. Thanks Destructoid.

I'll be eligible for a Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book. Can't wait. Beats the 6lbs POS HP from 2013 they gave me when I joined. Lugging it home sucks. Lugging a Surface home will be ridiculously easy. Or even unnecessary, as they'll finally let me virtual machine in with my desktop. Then I just need the Surface for travel.

Lucky you! My company wouldn't spend that much on a laptop for me. I recently got a Surface Pro 3 for myself and really like it. I did get the new keyboard cover and pen however.

Of course it doesn't replace my gaming rig but that's not what I bought it for.

WTF why is the 32-bit version having any kind of increase, and on steam no less. It shouldn't even exist.

Any system being auto-upgraded from 32-bit windows 7/8 will get a 32-bit windows 10, I think. There are probably quite a lot of old 32-bit windows 7 systems, and there are a lot of new low-end (2gb ram) Windows tablets that come with 32-bit windows 8.1.

Just found out my company is moving to W10 next year. Even better, the replacement age for laptops is moving down to 3 years from an ungodly 4, and it'll be 2 for hybrids.

Imagine how bad it would be if they didn't make Windows 10 a forced update for many users. Oh yeah, that was an "error".

If my parents can figure out how not to update on their own then i'd hope it wouldnt be a problem for a 'pc gamer'...

1%. Holy shit!

Pretty close to my thoughts. And I'm glad Blue put quotes around "soars". Because I don't think an almost 3.5% change is soaring by most standards. Especially when that method of measurement doubles the actual number of people switching. A better statement is that less than 1.75% of Windows users changed to Win 10 from some older version last month.

28% penetration into the gaming community in 4 months is quite good. Microsoft has been very aggressive with upgrades, and it's paying off for them. Sucks if you are one of the many who want to - and should be able to - keep control of your system.
