It would make sense for them to limit customization to some extent. Customization has been in the rulebooks from the beginning, so BattleTech and the Mechwarrior games have always had a problem with its 'Mechs being interchangeable gunbags without any individual character beyond the art.

I don't think there's any reason to expect this game will let you put all those shots in one location, or even hit with all 24 guns. The downside of a massed MG build is that if you lose initiative it's easy for your opponent to render all your guns useless, and even you win initiative they know to force your to-hit up so that most of your shots miss. It doesn't work well in practice.

Yeah, pretty cheesy, but fun!

There are downsides to it of course. Miss, and you're finished. And MGs have range 200? So you get pounded with LRMs, PPCs, and heavy lasers on the approach.

id imagine another open-world-ish mechwarrior type game (like the original) will probably be in development fairly soon, at least by 2017

This got funded, because it had the official Mechwarrior licence with Steiner and Kurita and (the original) Marauders and shit. And because the devs proved several times, that they can deliver.

Making a mech game with a SP campaign is no fool proof way to get the monnies. The lesser known you and your content are, the more you have to scramble to get attention and pledges.

Yeah, the machine gun is the "I have a 1/4 ton remaining on my weight limit, what can I throw in?" weapon. But I love extreme builds like that. I could lay waste to any mech in seconds with that build, as long as I could get in range and not run out of ammo.

Oh yeah, I had completely forgotten about the mini-campaign they were gonna add. I may do a second play-through of HK before that hits. I'm doing a mage in my current play-through (which I'd never done in previous games), so I'd kinda like to try an adept character next time through.
