Out of the Blue

I got the results of my colonoscopy, and the polyp they removed from me turns out to be something called a tubular adenoma. This seems to be the most common of such growths, and while benign, it is something that could become cancer if left to its own nasty devices. This illustrates the benefits of such a procedure, and one of the reasons I am sharing my story is to encourage anyone out there hesitant to get their own testing done, as the inconvenience and discomfort of the procedure seem greatly exaggerated, while it's hard to overstate its benefits. Going forward, I'm advised to watch my meat intake (something I am actually better about than my repeated tales of carnivorous lust would suggest), eat my fiber and veggies, take a daily baby aspirin (I'll consult my G.P. about this first) and get re-tested in five years. That five years is apparently sooner because of this outcome, though I thought the idea was to have these done more regularly, so that doesn't really bother me. So there... if you're putting this off like I was, I hope you will reconsider, and of course, I hope your results are perfectly routine.

Go for you Blue! Mom died of colon cancer. She never got tested. Had she been tested at 50 or ever 60, she'd still be alive. I am 40 this year and will probably be getting tested soon.

Also had my first at 40, and yes, that drink was the worst part of it by far. I felt like Dumbledore in the cave. My results were the same as Blue's, so 50 seems pretty late to me. They told me to check back in 4 years.

Not to rub it in, but we here in KC are very happy with our boys in blue performance thus far. Look out Big Apple, here we come...

I had mine at 40ish and am past due again for a colonoscopy....And Yeah the Royals have looked good. I'm hoping my team turns it around in game 3.

They told me I had to come after two years, but I'll admit I haven't done so strictly because having to drink that poison is still one of the more vile memories I have of my entire lifetime.

From my experience, their two-year recommendation is based on the chances of catching something in time based on your prior result, so that's not something I'd want to mess with.

Apparently you can take that stuff in pill form now, so I may check into that.

Whatever makes it work, I do hope you will go back.

I've proselytized enough, you'll have to work out your own diet.

Blue, the worst thing when I had my roto-rooter colonoscopy was chugging down that drink. Glad things worked out well for ya.

Skip the aspirin and have a martini instead. Seriously. My best friend's dad is a neurosurgeon and he's always held to that. The man has a martini every day and he just turned 86. It provides antioxidants and it helps keep your arteries clear and the blood flowing well. After all we're all far and away more likely to die of a heart attack or stroke than anything else and that all comes down to the circulation system.

That was my impression, but I wasn't sure how accurate it was, hence my question.

Thanks!
