Spore Servers Return
 [Oct 25, 2015, 11:26 am ET] – Share – Viewing Comments

A Spore Service Announcement has word that Spore servers are coming back online after months of downtime (thanks Gav). The evolutionary strategy game does not support synchronous multiplayer play, but centralized servers allow players to share their in-game creations. Word is EA Maxis has naturally selected a new datacenter:

Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding during this transition to a new datacenter.

I'm happy to say that we will be bringing Spore back online TODAY. We are taking the final steps which will open the servers to you once again.

When the servers come back online, you may notice the website is a little bare and needs your new creations and ratings to bring the site back to life. All your previous creations are still available and came with us to the new datacenter.

Once you have had a chance to use the site again and the activity re-populates the site please let us know of any issues you come across.

Please keep an eye on this thread for exact timing of the servers being fully available and status updates.

no lie though, that shit was pretty fucking amusing. when i first saw them i spent probly a good hour scrolling through the dick monsters just constantly chuckling. probably best chuckle of my life.

In other news, Popular Annual Game 2015 has now had its game servers sunsetted in anticipation of the imminent release of Popular Annual Game 2016.

(J/K, hopefully these days EA and large studios have better plans for keeping alive cheap, scalable server infrastructure for their games.)
