Konami Denies Kojima Exit

Following yesterday's report that Hideo Kojima's last day at Konami was October 9th, Kotaku notes a piece on Tokyo Sports with a denial from Konami saying Kojima is still part of the company, but is "on vacation." In response, Simon Parkin, author of The New Yorker article that started all this took to Twitter with this photo, saying: "Here is a photograph of Kojima's farewell party on October 9th at Konami, which Konami claims no knowledge of." Kotaku also notes that Kojima's contract supposedly runs through December, which could mean his departure is technically not yet official.

You're mistaken. Kotakus shitty reputation long preceded that whole event, like by years.

*shrug* I never cared much for kotaku and avoided the website so I cannot really say.

Having worked at a Japanese company, this seems like pretty standard stuff to me. When I quit, rather than paying me the remaining time off I was owed, I remained on the payroll and even my email account access remained open until those days off were spent. Looking back, when other employees quit, the company's official standing would be that the employee was sick, and they would even talk about him/her as if they would be coming back, and then we'd just be notified one day that they left the company. I'm sure not all companies work the same, but this seems more likely to be a business culture thing. I'm not sure I would read into this as some conspiracy or anything.
Bingo. This is a hallmark case of burning off any paid time off.

Is there a contract agreement which doesn't allow Kojima to provide that information or is it just better business to create multiple articles which may or may not be credible because it's Kotaku?

What does Kotaku have to do with it? The original story was from The New Yorker and the follow up from Tokyo Sports. Kotaku just reported on in, the same way Blue is doing with this.

Konami gets free publicity when they deny cause more people talk about it. Get over it.

"Hideo Kojima"

"Who's he?"

"You know, squirrely looking guy, mumbles a lot."

"Oh, yeah."

"Yeah, we can't actually find a record of him being a current employee here."

"I looked into it more deeply and I found that apparently what happened is that he was laid off five years ago and no one ever told him about it; but through some kind of glitch in the payroll department, he still gets a paycheck."

"So we just went ahead and fixed the glitch."

"Great."

"So, uh, Hideo has been let go?"

"Well, just a second there, professor. We, uh, we fixed the *glitch*. So he won't be receiving a paycheck anymore, so it'll just work itself out naturally."

"We always like to avoid confrontation, whenever possible. Problem is solved from your end."

I'm sure it's just a cultural thing. They will deny everything because it would be bad manners to do anything else at this point. (After all his contract runs through to December)
I have a nifty blue line!
