Star Citizen Status Update

A development update on the Roberts Space Industries website has the status of the Star Marine module and plans to launch a version 2.0.0 alpha of Star Citizen, Cloud Imperium's upcoming space combat game. Here's a bit from this progress report:
Brace yourselves for some brand new gameplay elements! We’ve now got our basic implementation of the refuel, repair and restock systems in-game so pay attention to your Quantum Fuel Tank reserves and choose your Jump Points wisely to make sure you don’t get stranded out there! Then when you’re not busy hurtling around at 0.2c, or fighting pirates in asteroid fields, you can also experience the first taste of “rules and regulations” in the Universe with the introduction of our first “Green Zone” that enforces a non-combat area on all players. This is an important step towards building the bigger picture.

As I’m sure you’re all aware, the FPS team are working hard at getting the basic movement and gunplay feeling good so that we have a solid foundation to build on from, just like we did with our IFCS system for ships. The new additions of IFCS systems have been in test for the past few days so we’re balancing all of that out with Design and QA. Super Cruise, SCM (Space Combat Manoeuvring) and Precision Mode will soon be ready for you to hone your space flight skills even further; and we’ve even given EVA the “IFCS makeover” to harness all the hard work that went in to that system which will give us a much more natural and precise version of EVA manoeuvring.

God yes. Fuck that guy. I love how his tumblr page touts how his game is better in every regard to SC. Then, go to steam and look at the reviews, "Mostly negative". People can't log in, and after weeks of trying they crash. Glitches galore.

But, Derek Smart! What a clown.

No, I'm saying people can argue it's a fraud without actually knowing what they're talking about, thus they're not really being honest with their arguments because they haven't done their due diligence. Maybe 'honest' isn't the best word for what I'm talking about.

Exactly. So you wrongly claimed people were being dishonest for wrongly claiming people were being dishonest.

I-ron-y. Kind of like iron.

Lol, I didn't wrongly accuse anyone, but you know, keep trying to twist my words to fit whatever ridiculous point you're trying to make.

I don't need to twist them. You made a blanket statement accusing people of dishonesty, and you just acknowledged that was a mistake. By all means, avoid learning from this experience - that is, after all, another of the rights you're so keen on.

I said that the word I used might not be the best one, but my statement remains the same; they're either being purposely dishonest in their arguments or they're arguing without knowing all the facts (and not caring that they are). If that's a blanket statement, then so fucking be it.

That's not how it works. He who makes goofy statements is in charge of backing them up. Otherwise, it just looks like you're talking out your ass, with nothing to back it up.

My dear Bluesnews followers, specifically Derek Smart supporters.

I would like to be the first to thank you all for supporting, disputing and discussing Derek Smart, his continued campaign against Robert Space Industries and Star Citizen. As I pointed out two weeks ago, it has come time for Derek to disappear and not continue this engagement of accusations, doxing and ad hominem for which he knew could create real life legal issues for him but chose to ignore. Derek will no longer be posting anything Star Citizen related or topics surrounding it, nor will he discuss why he can no longer do so.

- Derek's Twitter account will be suspended indefinitely.
- His personal blog site will give a statement regarding his disengagement of Star Citizen and it's surrounding involvements. As well as an apology to those who were affected.
- His game, Line of Defense could be under investigation. Don't quote me on that.
- There is more news coming soon so keep your eyes peeled.

Think I'm lieing? I am not your internet mommy so dig up the information yourself. It has been a pleasure.

Thanks for your reply, very well put, I agree with you in some ways but I also have a lot of fun poking the cultist.

Please feel free to post about the third way (middle ground, some other are already there) as often as you like. I'm all about more points of view (In this wasted first world topic Thumbsup )

P.S. I do like the Star Citizen threads, has do others or else they would not have so many post (although it's mostly a few posters (kxmode, myself, CJ Parker, jdreyer, theyarecomingforyou, ect) posting many times.) - I'm sure Blue know how many look at these post and weather it is wroth him posting them.

The middle way is pretty clear: there is no place for a reasoned discussion on Blues about this title the manic screaming from both sides drowns out anything else. Should anyone feel the need to check, I've already said I'm a backer, and I'm content to wait: I've spent plenty of money on Kickstarters, I don't spend more money than I am willing to lose freely on a venture with no guaranteed outcomes.

That said, the only reason I post about this topic on the site at all, is because the community is better than these shitposts and it's been a long enough time to be carrying on in this fashion, it's unproductive, hateful, and mean-spirited.

If you're harping over $35 dollars you spent almost 4 years ago, you shouldn't be spending it on games that haven't been released and thoroughly reviewed by an audience you trust or friends you can rely on.

Star Citizen posts are the daily hate around here. People come for these posts, not necessarily explicitly only for them, but with the full intention to commiserate with like-minded fellows and get a deep bitter draft of vitriol to the point of absolute parody. There is no objectively, just a deep loathing about a game that they are either paradoxically waiting to see if its good, have no interest in playing, or have already divested themselves of their previous donations. You're either going to shit, or get off the pot: standing in the washroom complaining about the smell makes you look stupid, or it means you like it. Do you like it?

Another blanket statement, look Krovven, this is the definition of taking a huge fucking dump one the entire Blues community. Something that arguably the founder of said community (and the members themselves) might take offense at.

Now an example of something that isn't a blanket statement: Fuck your blanket statements CitizenP, if you don't like it here go back to the hole you crawled out of!

Either you come to these threads for the residue of interesting conversation and critical discussion, or a lark, or you're here to spew your bile over something you can't decide you love to hate, or hate to love. This speaks nothing to the community here, but the select member who care to dine in the sty and behave like a pig.

It's not trolling defending a game you like in a comment section on an article about the bloody said game. Honestly, if my statement (blanket or not) that no one can honestly argue that the game is actually a fraud (which people still do) gets underneath people's skin, then they have thin skin indeed. Not to mention some sort of aversion with dissenting opinions and normal, rational discussion.

"It clearly isn't a fraud because XYZ" is rational discussion.

"Nobody can honestly argue it's a fraud" implies that everyone doing so is not merely mistaken but being deliberately dishonest.

Which is pretty ironic, when you think about it.

I gave points on why I think it's definitely not a fraud in my first post and many subsequent others. If I think people are being dishonest (by accident or otherwise) by claiming it's a fraud that's totally within my right.

...Now you've thoroughly confused me.

I thought you were objecting to the use of 'fraud' because it implies deliberate deception, ie: dishonesty.

But now you're implying that dishonesty can be accidental.

If dishonesty can be accidental, then fraud can be accidental.

So how can you object to people describing SC's failure to deliver to spec as fraudulent?

No, I'm saying people can argue it's a fraud without actually knowing what they're talking about, thus they're not really being honest with their arguments because they haven't done their due diligence. Maybe 'honest' isn't the best word for what I'm talking about.

That in no way implies that fraud can be accidental, which would go against the very meaning of the word.
