They aren't even close. In real sports no one ever gets into trouble.

Pete Rose agrees.

I'd be surprised if organised crime wasn't involved in eSports. Young, stereotypically unsocial kids are rip for exploitation; add gambling and it's a perfect target. I don't know what there is in terms of support for players but I would guess that it is less developed than established sports so they'd be more isolated.

I'm not saying eSports are rife with match or spot fixing, but the potential is there so there are sure to be some instances all over the globe.

"B4 himself received around 5m Korean Won ($4,450) in exchange for losing, while YoDa is reported to have received 30m KRW ($26,600) for losing two matches and blackmailed into losing two more with no compensation."

"Bettors themselves are reported to have ties to organised crime and approached brokers and Gerrard with initial, legitimate sponsorship and financial backing before proffering a match-fixing agenda."

Is organised crime's involvement in video games or eSports big in South Korea?

"The ring was turned in to KeSPA by an anonymous tipster, seeking compensation through the association's reward program for 'reporting or confessing to illicit activities'."

Pretty sum members of the organize crime world are now actively seeking this person. I believe they call them "snitches" or "rats".

The shitty part is that the players were likely threatened with physical harm to them or their families if they didn't throw the matches.

That's the benefit gambling brings to sport/esport now. Match fixing is almost never officially 'caught' in real sports though.

Trying to figure out why this is remotely interesting...:)
It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)

That sounds kind of... extreme. Are you thinking of North Korea?
