Out of the Blue

Well, I seem to be surviving my colonoscopy prep as well as I could hope. I have definitely worn a path to the bathroom, as was to be expected, but I seem to be fine otherwise. Apparently the remaining wild card is how I come out of the anesthesia, as I'm told it's possible I'll come away from this as "high as a kite," and may temporarily be more loopy than normal. This means that while I expect to be back and updating later, it's possible I'll just sleep through the rest of the day, while I can't rule out the possibility that I will write some sort of drug-fuelled manifesto that will have the men in black knocking at my door for a discussion about my future confinement. So in place of certainly, all I can offer is potential wackiness. Let the games begin! Speaking of which, NFL pool participants should get their picks in before tonight's game.

Just read the sad Total Biscuit news, poor soul has terminal cancer.

He's got a shot still. They're doing experimental targeted liver surgery at Princess Margaret's Hospital up here in Canada, they've had successful trials already. Maybe he can get a referral, my aunt did and shes having it next year.

Please send him a note with the details. Thanks!

Well, I don't know if there is really a right way to tell people this, so I guess here goes. The CT did not come back negative. The cancer in the bowel is gone, but spots have appeared in my liver. They're not operable and there's no cure. Average life expectancy is 2-3 years, though there are outliers that live much longer. I'll be back on chemo in a few weeks, with the goal of pushing it back and keeping it there for as long as possible. I fully intend to be the outlier, the average is this way because most people that get this are old and not strong anymore. Who knows what they'll come up with in the next decade? I intend to beat it for as long as possible. Gonna need some time to process all of this. I don't really feel anything right now. Thanks.

I'll bet they use propofol, instead of demerol, which means you wake up much more alert, and not goofy. So the manifesto will have to wait.

RE: The Most Mysterious Star in Our Galaxy

Highly, highly, HIGHLY doubt it.

Who is it? Justin Bieber?

It is mysterious. I'm not saying it's aliens, but what could block up to 22% of a star's light? They've ruled out a protoplanetary disk. I'm sure it's something mundane like two planets colliding that left a big mess, and once we get the Webb telescope in orbit we'll fund out what it is. Remember that "face" on mars taken by Viking? When Mars Global Surveyor took a look at it, it turned out to be just another mountain.

Alien

If it was alien structures, they'd have to be massive, like millions and millions of square miles, to block that much light. It's almost inconceivable.

Maybe it's a Dyson sphere in construction. The aliens took one look at us and decided they need to build a gated community around their sun.

There was a discussion on reddit, where it was said Jupiter would block 1% of our sun, and Earth 1/100th of 1%. There is some credence to dust clouds from comets, pulling in its own Oort cloud etc... but even those explanations were unusual.

Since many will just read the title...the Fantastic Four story has been denied by both Marvel and Fox.

I'm sure they are talking, just like Sony & Marvel both denied the rumors prior to their announcement.
