Out of the Blue

I'd warn you to prepare for over-sharing, but I think most of you are used to it by now. I will be fasting today as I prepare for a colonoscopy tomorrow, as I've finally consented to this routine, if intrusive, procedure. This will involve not eating solids for most of the day, and eventually drinking a bottle of prescription Montezuma's Revenge to pave the way (or unpave it, so to speak). I'm told that a guy will typically lose five pounds in the process, so this can apparently be a little rougher on those as skinny as I am, but I presume I will survive just fine. The fasting in advance does recall an old joke... something about how the least the doctor could do is buy me dinner first.

You will do fine.

You are used to stuff passing through in one direction every day.
This is just a one day out of the year when a very small thing goes the other way.

The wieght loss is an old wives tale.

Just don't drink the stuff unless your three steps from a head.

I couldn't drink the terribly nasty tasting Fleet stuff. Got the lemon lime flavor and the said to mix it with Sprite but it was god awful and made me gag. Finally after call docs and pharmacies someone was finally like, "Oh you can take these pills instead but you have to take a lot of them over a short period of time and people don't like that because they're big." .... Fuck that, I'd totally rather take tasteless big pills over some nasty ass drink. They do the same thing, make a bunch of water rush right to your colon to clean you out.

So if you hate the nasty drink, ask for the pills, much easier to get down in my opinion.

Yeah, that sounds a million times easier. I'll have to remember that...Thanks!

As someone gifted with Crohn's for the past few decades, I can tell you, a colonoscopy is really not a big deal. Mostly, of course, because you're completely out of it the entire tire. The worst part is indeed the prep. There are some comments below on mixing it with your drink of choice, and that's definitely correct. Just make sure it's a clear liquid (check online if you're uncertain... and remember... no orange or red!).

If you're curious about the truly unpleasant alternatives to a colonoscopy, I invite you to research the "rigid sigmoidoscopy"... You'll be ecstatic at the thought of a colonoscopy by comparison

I mixed Crystal Light Lemonade with mine. And yes get it as cold as possible, it really helps. I found it to be no big deal. The stuff I drank did not cause bathroom emergencies per say, I had plenty of time to get to the bathroom from downstairs. What may have helped me was that I got the "Michael Jackson" drug to put me out. I also started eating light a few days ahead of time.

My only advice for the colonoscopy is: Do not underestimate the speed with which the laxative medicine takes effect. Once you start drinking that stuff, you end up in the bathroom sooner than one would normally expect. Be prepared.

Drinking that poison is absolutely terrible. I was told to refrigerate it, but honestly, I imagine it probably goes down better if you keep it room temperature.

As for the weight you drop, eh, that's all water weight anyway. Three days later it'll be back on.
