I don't see the problem. He's an entertainer who makes videos that generate money through advertising. It's no more strange that he's made millions than it is every football star ever.

All that from playing a video game on Youtube. That's beyond fucked up.

Why? He got his money legitimately. I don't understand the draw of Minecraft, much less WATCHING someone play minecraft, but if it sells, it sells. My friends' kids watch Let's Plays more than they ACTUALLY play games. It's not for us, so we don't understand it. This guy was able to stand out amongst the millions of other Lets Play people.

He didn't make his money on the backs of impoverished nations like the company who made the cellphone in your pocket. He isn't producing chemicals that are killing bees by the millions (which, if it continues, means WE ALL DIE, as will most life on the planet) like Monsanto. His way of making money is less fucked up than most.

Yes he did. Who made all those PCs, cells, tablets, etc. people watch him on? If anything he's part of the problem. He's encouraging sloth, conspicuous consumption, crass commercialism, etc. At least watching sports encourages people to play them or at least get some excercise, he's just making unhealthy kids unhealthier - junk food, radiation, etc. I could go on and on about this but my original summation was apt and to the point.

And you're doing the same as well by participating on this board on a daily basis.

Gary Dahl sold rocks to people as pets and became a multimillionaire in less than a year. If people can make a ton of money doing *anything* that isn't illegal or screws over other people, I say more power to them.

That said, if my wealth came from playing an old videogame on Youtube, I think I'd have bought a house that costs 1/20th as much and invested the rest of the money wisely.

Right. Someone was going to be the guy for whatever segment they are in. It's not like any of us would turn down cash. Poo, Kim, whatever...

Capitalism. No reason to be jelly, there are people out there that are born into lavish's without even having the talent to do this. Like Pew Dee Pie. As simple as it seems, you and I can't do it like he can to bring in the people.

From day one I never understood youtube and the fact that they hosted the videos for free let alone allowed everyone to watch them for free. I know there's ads on there (if you don't use an adblock program) but still.

That's impressive, well done to him.

I don't see what is "beyond fucked up" in this case. He deserves this money more than YouTube, who would be keeping it if he somehow didn't get a cut. It would be nice for me if YouTube didn't show ads or try to make money but something not being for my benefit doesn't make it messed up. He's been watched well over a billion times, he's as entitled to material success as much as any entertainer.

Maybe it would be nice if doctors and teachers got this sort of reward but there's nothing new here with regards to that and he's not doing anything I wouldn't like to.

Actually, not a huge minecraft or minecraft lp fan myself; but it makes a lot more sense to me than other let's plays. What happens in the game actually represents the casters personality a lot more than most games.

Anyway. This is basically how fame works. People like people.
