Is it worth my time reading back through 158 comments on this thread?
Nobody else does, why would you want to be the first.
Second. I absolutely start from 1 and read entire threads, including just finishing this one now. It's why I've come here since before 3/11 (fukushima talk on blue's). Yes I'm one of those first time poster / long time listener types. This place is just too damn entertaining.
I've read every comment, clicked every link reading both articles and comments therein, returning to the next reply on Blues in this thread, and while I've laughed outright at some comments, and chuckled at the DS hate, as I was sitting here a random thought started percolating in my head as I approached comment #173:
I wouldn't want to be CR right now.
I honestly don't think Chris Roberts is a scammer, and looking for an out at this time. I believe we're witnessing nothing more or less than the continuing saga of one of gaming's more interesting personalities, and what appears to be an ongoing inability to match the state of what passes for current computer technology with the 'Vision' he has in his head. Some of us have been around the block more'n a few times, and have seen this before, not only with various other studios/heads, but with 'this' dev in particular; in point of fact he and Freelancer are basically the poster children for the dictionary definitions of missed targets / feature creep / and inability to release, alongside DNF.
Opinion here, not backed with any facts at hand, but more of a gut feeling, but I think this situation is less scam and more of an affirmation/indictment of CR's apparent lack of ability to realise his Vision, whether due to actual inability to hit realistic goals, or outright mismanagement of the project.
I honestly feel that when he came out with the kickstarter for this game, he was raring to go and fired up to release the game he initially intrigued us all with, and was more than pleased when those initial targets were funded. But I also feel that he took it as affirmation by (Insert your version of Universal Creator here) that he was the Chosen One, that fact only solidifying in his brain pan as the many millions started rolling in. That tsunami of money rushing forwards to his outstretched arms... that's one helluva test of one's character and ability, for damn sure. I'd like to think that I wouldn't be tempted to don Emperor's clothing, and act as CR has been attributed to have according to the many posts/threads/articles about the web, but I'm not the one promising people literally the (virtual) world(s).
I wonder who's going to play him in the television movie.
