I think this is all related the Derek Smart and his crusade to end this project.
The escapist likely didn't vet anything with this article and Lizzy is simply a contractor trying to keep her job by writing a story that will get a lot of page views.
CR and company are right to respond to these accusations because they're serious. You can't accuse a company of being openly racist. That's a crime and if there is evidence then you need to present it and put a stop to it.
I don't think there is any evidence. Unless a police officer heard these comments or saw the email you can't say something and call it evidence. (that needs to change btw) Considering how easily you can copy, forward, and store emails it seems like you'd be wise to simply take that info to a lawyer yourself and sue them.
Instead they give it to Derek Smart and the Escapist?
Some of the info that's been covered before now is interesting but ultimately it's all just speculating on why things are happening. Person A left, lets speculate as to why! Person A, D and F left. Let's speculate! Listen to what this guy said!
I'd like to see what they have to show for the last 6 months and I believe they are going to show it at Citizen Con.
So far every time it's come to showing what they've done over the past few months people come away impressed. If they can deliver SQ42 in the near future (I'm hoping by summer 2016) then I think things will work out fine.
And at worst, if they need money and getting it from only backers isn't enough then as Kevin Dent on twitter mentioned, they have over a million customers, they have a proven market, they can get capital if they need it. (I couldn't find the exact tweet to quote, I'm paraphrasing. I suck at using twitter)
It's a long complicated path to the finished product. Whatever we have to do to get there is what needs to be done.
Given everything as it stands, do I want them to issue a refund and stop going any further or do I want them to continue and see what they make...? I say keep going. Deliver something. I'd rather see that than a refund. I also don't think that what Derek Smart proposes as solutions will move us towards getting something released. Getting external auditors involved so everyone can see how every dollar has been spent won't do anything to improve the project. Either it's on it's way to delivering something or it's not. Trying to steer it one way or the other at this point seems pointless. We'll all know soon enough what the end result will be.
