NVIDIA Relaunches Cloud Gaming

NVIDIA announces their GRID cloud gaming service is now known as GeForce NOW, claiming this is the first to offer 1080p, 60 FPS gaming over the internet. Word is: "GeForce NOW is your game library in the sky. See all the titles we offer from a game series at a glance — like the LEGO collection or the Batman Arkham series — for binge gaming. Use voice search to find your favorite games. Search through games by category. Or quickly browse the latest and most popular games." Here's more:
Next-Gen Quality

GeForce NOW is the first cloud-gaming service to stream at full high-definition 1080p quality and at 60 frames per second. Membership costs just $7.99 a month with the first three months free. GeForce NOW arrives on Oct. 1 in North America, the European Union and Japan with more than 50 popular games included. And it offers members the option to buy and play many more in an instant.

Get the Latest GeForce Gaming Technology with a Single Click

GeForce NOW is all about instant gratification. But it took us a decade to invent the technology behind the service that streams GeForce GTX-quality graphics to SHIELD devices.

GeForce NOW is a service designed, built and operated all by NVIDIA. We’ve optimized every piece of the technology behind GeForce NOW for gaming. That includes the low-latency game controller we built for SHIELD. The Tegra processors we built for our SHIELD devices. The advanced game engine we built into our GeForce GTX-powered servers.

So you’ll enjoy games at their best. You’ll enjoy GameWorks enhancements for special effects. And your experience will get better every year as we build more powerful GPUs and gaming technologies into GeForce NOW.

Think of GeForce NOW as your gaming supercomputer in the cloud. Next-gen gaming is now easy and instant.

The constant spewing of childish BS like this is precisely why I haven't bought a nVidia GPU since 2002...! Ugh...! (But it's fun watching them do moronic stuff like this...;))

Huh? That made no sense at all.

What was childish? What's moronic?

There's definitely a few on this site that really makes me wonder about their mental health.

I see what they're going for here: play PC level graphics on your tablet-like Shield. Thing is, you pay a monthly fee and pay for games on top of that, probably at retail prices. Not very enticing. Also, I wonder what those 50 games are.

Steam streaming works well for me, but that's from my local PC to my laptop.

This probably makes more sense at some point in the future, when there's more and more ubiquitous bandwidth available.

That's funny because I haven't purchased an underpowered, poorly supported AMD/ATi product since 2001.

Neither have the rest of us because those issues haven't existed since then. We've just been getting a lot more bang for our buck.

They have a list of the launch titles. They are mostly older games that are included in the monthly fee, but some of them and others that are "coming soon" have a purchase price on top of the monthly fee, which is a huge can of worms. They list Witcher 3 as $60. Mad Max is "coming soon" for $60. Who the fuck is going to pay WELL over retail to RENT a game? I lapse on my $8 payments and totally lose access to the $60 game, or what?

nVidia hasn't exactly had the best time with their drivers as of late, so I'm not sure why you'd even be throwing rocks from your glass house?

Obviously, anyone here that talks shit about AMD cards being 'underpowered', 'glitchy' or having 'driver issues' doesn't have one and hasn't had one for a long time. The last time I had ANY problems with AMD/ATI drivers was way the fuck back in 2006 with my X850Pro. My HD-series cards (4870, 5770 and now 7850) all have had absolutely NO issues whatsoever.***

Do certain games have problems with running on these cards? Well, of course, silly! You know, Arkham Knight ran just as shitty on nVidia as it did on AMD and I'll point out that the current-gen consoles, which all have AMD GCN video (7xxx-series cards and above), have had no issues with it. The cards are fine. During the Bitcoin-mining years, what card was best for mining? AMD. What card took over current gen consoles? AMD. Just because nVidia has more play money to pour into marketing and plastering their name over everything doesn't mean it goes to better quality of their products. You'd think they'd invest some of that marketing budget to get the leg-up on AMD and beat them once and for all, if AMD cards are as bad as some of you tend to claim. But AMD stills continues on, wonder why that is? Hmmm...

*** - The 7850/1gb broke it's fan after 10 months, certainly not AMD's fault. XFX replaced it even though by the time it was sent in, it had only a few days left on it's warranty and ran out before I got it back. Once replaced, it's performed as it should since with no other issues.

All I know is GeForce Shadowplay is amazing. I can record excellent quality 1080p60 videos on my crappy i3-2100 with a Geforce GTX 960 with zero lag. I have no idea how they make this work. So making it 1080p60 STREAMING HD is bonkers!

Edit: Imagine when nVidia releases GeForce NOW Extreme featuring 4Kp60 HD STREAMING

Yeah, remember the huge fucking failure Onlive was? Video game streaming might be a thing, but its a thing of the future, when high speed broadband is at least ten times the speed of today, and there is no ISP throttling or traffic issues.

So basically South Korea could probably get into this now. Rest of the world? Not so much...

The last time I had any problems with Nvidia drivers was in 2005, I guess I win this battle of anecdotes. Seriously though, I've owned both brands for a long time now, I'm even running 2 different gaming machines in this house with a card from each. AMD has been pretty shitty just like Nvidia has been pretty shitty and anyone who says otherwise is deluded. They both go through periods of idiotic design, both in terms of hardware and software.

The rest of your post is really bizarre and defensive, talking about bitcoin and consoles smacks of desperation to be blunt. Instead of getting so invested in a particular brand you should probably weigh each card on its own merits.

In terms of AMD continuing on..well they aren't doing that hot.

AMD has always been about brute force: high power drain, high heat output.. moderately similar performance at a minor discount

but they sure as hell arent "better" at all

Bizarre and defensive, eh? So bringing up facts that support my argument, even if it isn't strictly gaming related is bizarre now? Yes, I'm defensive. I'm an AMD/ATI fanboy...duh. Everyone knows that. Get with the program, dude!

As for the rest of your post and the other two who are lucky to find their way out of their rooms in the morning, it's pretty much what I expected a response would be. 'Oh, I use both, I just didn't specifically say before even though such a statement would make my comments just a tiny bit more valid'. Sure, bruh. Sure.

I'd be much more interested in this if I didn't have to spend another $200 upfront on yet another device I don't need. For those who already have a PS3/PS4/360/XBONE what incentive do they have to shell out that kind of money when their console already allows them to stream movies and do so much more?
