Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is not due for almost a month, but ArenaNet has
posted a launch trailer
for their MMORPG expansion to raise interest and perhaps inspire
preorders of the add-on (thanks Kxmode). The developer also now offers an
introduction to their Partner Program for content creators, an outline of
plans for a
final Beta weekend event beginning on October 2nd, and an
intro to the Druid: Ranger’s Elite Specialization.

As a max level Sylvari who has done the living story, I have no idea what's going on. I should find some lore pages. Same issue with WoW. Eventually it just gets confusing.
Living World summaries for season 1 and season 2. You can also watch WoodenPotatoes extensive library of lore videos. All of that should help you get up to speed with what's going on.

As someone who mains a sylvari I cant wait. During last beta weekend I learned that sylvari can hear Mordremoth give commands to his mordrem servants. The sylvari were intended to serve mordremoth but their mother tree was lucky enough to have a tablet of wisdom at her roots and so as she gained sentience she taught her seedlings - her sylvari - about wisdom, justice and freedom. Now that the dragon is awake however, some sylvari are 'hearing the call' and joining him.
A lot of lore fans had been saying the Pale Tree was a champion of Mordremoth and that the Sylvari are minions. So many times people shot this done as wrong. Check out the reactions in my Guild Wars 2 forum post on the topic. I got into detailed specific reasons why Scarlet Briar became Mordremoth's champion when it became clear the Pale Tree had effectively turned traitor against Mordremoth by setting her Sylvari on a path of nobility. Anyway that forum post is kind of funny to see how wrong people were with their assessment. This part of the thread got into detailed specifics. Still got shot down by others.

Oh yeah, it's been clear since the end of Living Story Season 2 that the expansion is all about a Sylvari uprising and the racial turmoil it causes. Even the "good" Sylvari are being hunted down and discriminated against by all the other societies.
And although it is interesting for them to finally come out with a 100% healing class in the Druid, as a fan of the Ranger I was hoping it would be something a bit less... lame. New pets should be cool, though!

Druid seems very Druidish with a touch of Shamanism. All it needs now is more Moonkin.
