There's also a huge amount of minigame, surf, zombie escape, prop hunt, etc... modded servers

Dirty Bomb is just shit, Insurgency was too obtuse (ie not fun) when I tried it like (LIKE EIGHT YEARS AGO), and Overwatch looks like a resounding "meh". TF2 made genuine strides to update stale shooter tropes and succeeded in a huge way, Overwatch looks entirely derivative by comparison.

Wow, I had no idea CS had fallen so far. I got CS:GO at some point in a bundle or something... I've played it a bit, and it feels about the same as old CS 1.6 or CS:S in general.

Hearing that's it has surpassed TF2 hats for completely unnecessary microtransaction/gambling bullshit has just killed the game for me.

Indeed. Interesting history, as well I had no clue there were skins more valuable than the markets $400 limit. Just seen a Ak47 stat track for $4k after reading/following a link to the 3rd party sale site.
