It doesn't help that the (few) plot pushes in MGSV are ceaselessly diluted among a majority of pointless filler missions.

We're talking 50 total missions, MAYBE ten of which involve real plot development, maybe ten of which are just Subsistence or Stealth or Extreme redos of earlier missions, and the rest being filler. And then the game goes and ends without any resolution, anyways, because it's painfully clear that Konami said enough is enough get this game out the door NOW.

I'm not a hardcore MGS fan, but I still had some pretty moderate expectations going in about narrative development in MGSV and the game still under delivered in a big way. I'd be more upset about it if the game wasn't so fun.

youre telling me it has less plot and story than Far Cry 3? because it doesnt

it has more.. and honestly i could give a rats ass about stories in games because they all fucking suck anyways - even Witcher 3, which id consider the most fleshed out plot in a game in years and years, is pretty mediocre from a strictly narrative sense

if you want narrative, read a book, watch a movie, etc... thats IMHO

Friend me on steam and I'll buy you 'This War of Mine' ;

I played MGS4 for a few hours but couldn't tolerate it. I play games to do things, not sit and watch videos.

ive noticed all the long-time metal gear fan reviewers are pissed and disappointed in the depth and breadth and length of the plotline and story elements... while those who are new to the series or casual players of past games barely even mention this

the last MG game i played was the one on the PS3, which was widely regarded as having way way way way too much story and plot, to the point of extreme frustration and anger (45 min unskippable cutscenes etc)...

so really im not surprised how sparse this one is in comparison

but really, i havent noticed it as being a problem in this game - for example, it has quite a bit more plot and storyline than something like the Far Cry games, which are actually very similar to this game in many ways with the base assaults and marking targets and stealth stuff, etc.

and i kinda wish these hardcore fans would have the self-awareness to realize this... but it seems much more like a bunch of pokemon fans complaining about the latest iterations lack of jiggamons and pubismons when they were so pivotal to the 'pokemons go the moon' series, blah blah blah blah blah

I don't see the problem either. The tapes just replace the bullshit in older games where you had 30 minutes of 2 talking heads while you were forced to twiddle your thumbs.
