Conspiracy chatter was once dismissed as mental illness. But the prevalence of such belief, documented in surveys, has forced scholars to take it more seriously.Conspiracy theory psychology is becoming an empirical field with a broader mission: to understand why so many people embrace this way of interpreting history.
As you’d expect, distrust turns out to be an important factor.

But it’s not the kind of distrust that cultivates critical thinking.

Psychologists will tell you that even perfectly sane people have the ability to accept wild conspiracy theories. The more powerless or alone they feel, the more likely they are to develop such theories.

The current scientific thinking suggests these beliefs are nothing more than an extreme form of cynicism, a turning away from politics and traditional media — which only perpetuates the problem.

Conspiracy theorists tend to share a core set of traits, regardless of their conspiracy of choice.
One such trait is self-esteem. A person with low self-esteem who feels isolated or disenfranchised is much more likely to believe and share wild theories as a way of making themselves seem more knowledgeable.

Perhaps people here should've responded that his friend didn't die, it was all a big conspiracy and linked to an idiotic youtube video thats all supposition with no actual evidence of anything. Maybe then he would know how it feels. I feel like that's all people like him understand, their own shitty medicine.

I have a question. Does Cutter's post in any way dishonor the memory of those who died? Whether they died the way we saw in person or on television or in some sort of conspiracy the point is in both scenarios they died. Cutter said "the truth is out there." I guess in his fucked up mind that's his way of saying "I want to help you find the truth of why 3,000 souls died so that we can get justice for them and their loved ones." I personally think the 9/11 conspiracy is fucking bonkers but I understand why those passionate about it would choose today of all days to mention it.

Yeah, that's the ticket. And another building that was entirely unscathed just happened to collapse at the same time too. Yeah, so stick your head in the sand along with them and let the real criminals get away with. And JFK was shot by a lone gunman with a magic bullet too.

You posted on Sept 7th that your friend had passed - and no one here showed you anything other than complete compassion. I contacted you personally as it is a sensitive matter and gave you my condolences. No one has asked why or how or what or talked down about that one individual, regardless of what it may have been. For some reason, maybe because you have a very pointed hatred towards the US, government, law enforcement, and many other things, you felt the need to piss on this day and the tragedy that befell almost 3,000 human souls. On top of that, most likely 4x that from accelerated cancers and probably another 40-50,000 directly impacted by those hurt and dead.

My mind and body are exhausted from the day. Talked to friends, family, loved ones, first responders, and anyone who wanted to talk today - a lot of people did.

I told one individual that I now understand what my father explained to me when JFK was shot and what my grandparents explained to me about the feeling of Pearl Harbor.

Your constant need to come here and be a heartless f*** because it didn't impact you, because of your hate towards others......yet you come here seeking love.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

Blue refused to remove the posts of hatred about this day, it is his site, he can do what he wants. I am embarrassed to be a part of this site and the shit that goes on here lately.

When a tragedy of the magnitude of 9/11 occurs it is only natural for it to be scrutinized from beginning to end and it is only natural for people of various different beliefs, cultures, and political stances to reach different conclusions when presented with the same facts, statistics, probabilities, and speculation.

All of that said, none of that changes the fact that the victims of that day deserve at least one day, where we remember them and them only. Not a day where we argue about who was responsible, not a day where we debate the same theories we can debate on any other day, and certainly not a day where we display our division rather than our unity. One day to simply remember the victims seems not just the respectful thing to do, it's the right thing to do.

Quote what you want Cutter, it's the Internet and nobody ever wins an Internet argument. Just know that for people who either don't believe in the conspiracies or just want to focus on the lost, your quoted links will fall on deaf ears today. They might have looked yesterday, they might have looked tomorrow, but that isn't what today is for. The day of the tragedy belongs to the victims and their loved ones who grieve for them.

Well said.

World Trade Center 7 is the reason i actually have trouble believing 9/11 wasn't an inside job. It makes no sense why that one collapsed.

That building wasn't hit by anything but small debris from the first crash

Anyways, 9/11 was terrible. I remember being at home, woken up by my brother saying "you need to see this". It was messed.

Yeah, seconded, not least because I was living in downtown Manhattan when it happened and watched it all in real life, not on TV.

Food for thought. The truth is out there.

Please for the love of god... never stop posting stuff like this.

The general lack of outrage in this country over the half-truths surrounding 9/11 are a total embarrassment not only to everyone that died that day but to every soldier who has had to put their life on the line for the war on "terrorism" since.

If there is one day a year where the inconsistencies and half-truths surrounding 9/11 should be pushed to the fore-front of our minds... it's on 9/11. You honor the dead by demanding the truth be told, not with your silent willful complacency.

It's weird, you read about people remembering the exact moment they heard about Pearl Harbor or JFK getting shot. But you don't understand exactly what they're talking about until you experience such an event for yourself. I remember in such vivid detail watching the attacks on TV, where I was, what I was doing, the smells, the light through the windows, everything.

My heart goes out not only to those who suffered loss on that day, but those who continue to suffer illness from the fallout of that event.

I remember driving to work that morning. Cars were literally pulling over to the side of the freeway to listen to the radio announcements. Crazy times.

I use to fly out to NY and stay with a girlfriend who lived in Upper East Side Manhattan. Felt like a second home for awhile. The news was crushing.
