Rise of the Tomb Raider Multiplayer Cut

A tweet from AGB offers an image from Xbox Magazine #128 (September 2015) revealing that multiplayer support is being cut from Rise of the Tomb Raider (thanks Cinema Blend). The scan from the article offers the following quote noting this will not be part of Lara Croft's next adventure, though it does not explain why: "With multiplayer cut from the experience, Crystal Dynamics needed to make this core campaign as entertaining as possible."

Timed exclusives don't bother me at all anymore. My backlog is too large for me to care about what day I get a game any longer. I buy games when the price is right, the platform is my preference for the genre, and I find the time. Pretty much all three things have to line up for me to pull the trigger these days.

Timed exclusive, happens all the time.

You guys playing local coop with your families? Because I picked this up when it dropped for free on the PS4 and me and 4 friends could not even get through the first level without people constantly getting dropped or glitched. We must have restarted and reloaded half a dozen times before we finally gave up. I did a search on the issue afterwards I discovered this was a common issue with this game.

Simple solution: get it on PC.

Well based on my experience with ToO I can tell you why, they have no idea how to get it to work. The Temple of Osiris is a complete utter broken mess playing coop.

How was it broken?

I had a blast playing it with my two kids and we never noticed anything that seemed broken.

Ditto for Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light.

I would be curious as to what the issue(s) is/was/were as well. Both games have worked fine for me and my family.

Temple of Osiris isn't even the same fucking game.

Crystal Dynamics made it, so it still speaks to their abilities. If they can't do good multiplayer in a game that was built from the ground up for co-op (I haven't played it, so I'm taking Sam's word for it), to me that says they certainly shouldn't bother trying to tack something onto a single-player game. Not that we needed any further evidence, though; the multi in the last Tomb Raider game sucked, too. All those multiplayer DLCs they churned out for that abortion must not have sold much at all if they've decided not to crowbar it into the sequel, as well.

Um, not that I even knew it had multi planned to be honest, but I'll take an awesome single player experience ten fold over a sh!tty multi that was just slapped together to do some lame deathmatch just because they wanted an extra feature to throw on the description of what the game provides.

Tomb Raider should always be about the awesome single player and unless they design a CO OP feature around the single player where someone plays Lara and another plays some side kick come along, I can't see multi working for this series in a strict DM, TDM type of way.

This is disappointing, as the Tomb Raider series has always been known for it's outstanding multiplayer.
