WildStar F2P This Month

NCSOFT announces an official launch date for the free-to-play version of WildStar, saying Carbine's sci-fi MMORPG will relaunch without subscription fees on September 29th. Here's word on the launch, and how to try to get into beta testing in the meantime:
NCSOFT® and Carbine Studios™ announced today that sci-fi MMO WildStar’s free-to-play update will launch 29th September, 2015. Additionally, the second phase of the closed beta test started this week, focusing on fine-tuning the update’s changes prior to release.

More than just a business model conversion, the free-to-play launch will be the title’s biggest game update yet thanks to new content, enhanced game systems, and countless quality of life improvements. Titled WildStar Reloaded, the upcoming content update is the culmination of months of improvements and tweaks that make the game bigger and better than ever. New players will enjoy a greatly streamlined starting experience, while veteran players will be handsomely rewarded for their loyalty. As an added perk, all players with active subscriptions at the time of the free-to-play transition will also receive exclusive items as a bonus.

While the first phase of the closed beta has been focused on testing the improved player experience—including new content and tutorials—phase two will ensure that the economic aspects of the free-to-play transition are launch-ready. The second phase also offer invited players a risk-free opportunity to test the new in-game store by buying NCoin—a real money currency that is all new to WildStar. All NCoin purchased during the second phase will be copied to players’ beta characters, allowing them to test the entire purchase process and the purchased NCoin will then be transferred in full to their live characters once the transition officially happens.

The free-to-play closed beta is accessible to all current subscribers, as well as non-subscribers who have been invited and redeemed a closed beta key. Anyone can sign up for a closed beta key by visiting the official WildStar site and clicking the “Sign Up For Beta” button.

If they would've made the end game accessible to more people from the get go, toned down the dungeons.. it would've been a lot more popular.

But they INSISTED on being "hardcore".. and it was, but there was not enough audience for "hardcore". We tried to tell them that

I've been playing the F2P beta for the last 2 weeks. As a F2P it's probably better than some of the others I've tried. There's enough variation while leveling that it's not the mind numbing experience I've had in other F2P MMOs. I've had some issues that concern me though; and while I understand it's a beta, it's also a beta of a game that's been out for awhile. The UI has been having issues with the quest tracker, which makes questing difficult, and I can't run it in DX11. DX11 runs very smoothly until it doesn't, apparently it's an issue they've had for quiet awhile.

Overall I'd say worth checking out. It's got a cartoony style that I realize isn't for everyone, but I like it.

Reloaded means you fired your weapon and need to reload cause it did not do enough the first time.

Seems pretty apt (and honest).

I may be biased because I think WildStar is an excellent evolution of WoW's flavour of MMO, but I'll accept the title literally.

To clarify, I interpret the PR as saying the name of the update itself is WildStar Reloaded, but the game's still named WildStar. No biggie.

Is this F2P like SWTOR or LOTRO?

William Shakespeare's "Star Wars" Act I, Scene 1: Aboard the rebel ship. / Enter C-3PO and R2-D2. / C-3PO: "Now is the summer of our happiness / Made winter by this sudden, fierce attack!" / R2-D2 — Beep beep, Beep, beep, meep, squeak, beep, whee!

APB Reloaded, now WildStar Reloaded.

Stop reloading! Just make your game F2P and be done with it. Reloaded means you fired your weapon and need to reload cause it did not do enough the first time.

Moment to moment the game was a lot of fun. The environments got kind of interesting and there were some fun set pieces. The world events that would roll through from time to time were an improvement on GW2 and were kind of a blast.

I never was able to get together with my friends though and raid. The hardcore raid thing was what killed it for me.

They've been hyping free-to-play for the past 6 months... I wouldn't be surprised if people who were interested when they first announced the change forgot about it after realizing it hadn't happened yet.

I might give it a try, there's very little happening in October as far as new games.

I'll give it another shot since it's free. But, seriously - this game is like the Jar Jar Binks of MMO's so I'm not sure if my nerves will be able to take it for very long.

WildStar still exists? This announcement is the only thing I've heard from anyone about it in the past four months.
