Pillars of Eternity: The White March: Part I Released

Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive announce the release of The White March: Part I, the first half of the two-part expansion for Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian's throwback RPG. The new content in the pack is shown off in this trailer and more media and links to purchase add-on can be found on this page. Here's word:
Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive today released the first of a two-part expansion to Pillars of Eternity, the role-playing game (RPG) phenomenon funded by over 70 thousand backers. The award-winning recipient for the Best Indy RPG at E3 2015 from MMORPG.com, “The White March: Part I” is the first addition to the critically acclaimed game, and includes an extensive array of new dynamic content for both Pillars of Eternity veterans and newcomers. White March expands the story and experience of the original game, adding new locations, quests, and companions to the world of Eora, as well as new gameplay features such as multi-class abilities, soulbound weapons, and a higher level cap, allowing players new ways to play in all areas of the game. The White March: Part I is available today as an add-on to Pillars of Eternity for Windows, Mac, and Linux PC for $14.99. A bundle with Parts I and II is available for $24.99, which will grant owners the second installment immediately upon its release.

In The White March: Part I, Obsidian Entertainment continues the tale of Pillars of Eternity, an RPG inspired by classics of the computer RPG genre. Featuring an expertly crafted story from Carrie Patel, author of the Recoletta series and writer on the original Pillars of Eternity, and Eric Fenstermaker, lead writer on Pillars of Eternity and one of the co-writers of South Park: The Stick of Truth alongside show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the new expansion has new lore and challenges to explore. Set during the middle of the original game similar to the classic Tales of the Sword Coast, the new expansion can be experienced regardless if players have completed the core game or not. Players will venture into a new setting inspired by the snowy environments of Icewind Dale, and meet new companions including The Devil of Caroc, a construct rogue, and the scarred monk Zahua. Additionally, players can make use of new advanced party-based AI during combat and other adventuring challenges.

Anyways, So this is what I learned:
-Your attribute designation is permanent throughout the game. There's no real WRONG choices but you should choose wisely.
-HARD difficulty affects how many rests you get.
-You probably can't beat that bear at the start that the guy talks to you about.

What I'd like to know is how big of a difference deflection/reflex and willpower really does..

Eff that bear! I had to make a point to murder that jerk many levels later.

It depends on what you mean by 'at the start'.

If you're looking to fully clear the zone before moving on, then yeah you'll have difficulty as a solo fighter.

But... the next area is a town with sidequests to revisit that wildersness zone, and you can recruit a wizard in front of the Inn (or make NPCs). The blind spell is AoE and super awesome.

Where is the mail updating people on how to get their free expansion etc.? Exactly. Nowhere to be seen.

That is some extremely poor communication as always from these guys. So no pledge. Ever. Again. kthx.

Check your inbox. I got an email at 11:54 with the info on the update and how to get my key.

Yup. Got it. On the day of release in the evening EU time after they said on July 1st that they would inform us "soon" .... /slowclap@Obsidian

For me, the only lengthy load from a save is the very first one in a session...that one takes ~60 seconds or so I would estimate--definitely long enough for me to notice...! After that, though, the loads are ~10 secs...They might be building a session cache during the first load...
It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)

The saving/loading is because the game autosaves on map transitions, and does a shit job of it. Get IEMod and disable autosaves entirely.

I do use that, still could be much faster using other games as a benchmark. I haven't tried the patch to see if they did anything here.

Looks like tons of improvements here, be happy to check this out when I'm done with Dark Souls 2. I never had any noticeable problems with load times but I was running it on an SSD.

That had mixed results from reports at their forum. When I look at it, 2015, areas no bigger than BG loaded at once, darn loads should be optimized in various ways to be darn instant.

Meh, when I see a $15 "expansion" called part 1 on a mediocre RPG at best, I'll be waiting for the bundles. That's if I decide to buy them at all.

In my current game; saves load really fast for me 30 seconds or less. But I'm only 30 hrs in.

And that is like 25 seconds too long still.

But yeah, will get the update and try out the new stuff, it sounds like a winner and then get around to White March.

You're expecting too much. They will never use Kickstarter update mails to inform backers of anything unless they have something new to sell.
Informing people of delays or that their free expansion is ready for key generation and download is waaaaaaayyyy too much work.
But I will strike back because for me it is also waaaaaayyyy too much work to ever pledge for any of their crap again. BWWWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA. Take that, bitches!!!11

I get update emails all the time from them. Perhaps it's because you're such a twat?

Perhaps.

But on a more serious note: Please define "all the time". The last mail I got from these lazy fucks is dated July 1st (yes, I archive them all). I get mails from Frontier, Descendent, RSI or Portalarium at least once a week.

Anyway, Obsidian's glorious July 1st mail: Kickstarter update #100. With zero info on when the expansion will be available or anything on key generation or stuff people might actually care about. Instead just a lame-ass advert for their retarded card game that no one gives a shit about and some update for boxed copy (DVD) owners. Awesome. Not.

The update before that was on June 25 when they said they would announce the release date of the expansion "soon". It came out today. So where the fuck is that announcement? Where is the mail updating people on how to get their free expansion etc.? Exactly. Nowhere to be seen.

That is some extremely poor communication as always from these guys. So no pledge. Ever. Again. kthx.

And a 2.1 GB update on Steam even if you didn't get the expansion.

Will it ever reduce load times (mine averaged between 60-90 seconds)? I finished the base game like 2 weeks ago after logging 100 hours. I figure at least 10 of those were load screens.

Even with that gripe I totally plan on playing through it a 2nd time eventually.

Same problem with mine. By the game's end it was taking me 1-2 minutes for a save to load. It even takes about 2 minutes for the game to kick me to the main menu when I start over now.

Sloppy coding, IMO.

Also important to note: if you pre-ordered the expansion through either Kickstarter or later on through the backer portal, it seems you get parts 1 and 2 of the White March.

At least that's what my PoEt account is showing, just redeemed the key on Gog.com, although of course the second part of the expansion isn't done yet.

D3 patch 2.3 and PoEt 2.0 + expansion today, goodbye productivity.

Also some fairly big patches to Darkest Dungeon the past week or so, if I really want to depress myself and question my video game luck.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, this updates the base game to 2.0 which comes with a lot of 'quality of life' updates like AI routines for companions and other fixes (2.0 update features).

Right, that's why those w/o the expansion also get the patch.
