It's like the racing game equivalent of riding a roller coaster.

There were some ridiculously long ones in the original trackmania (10min+).

What does the player get out of that? Sounds boring.
There's no challenge in racing it, true, so I guess there's no replayability either, but one can certainly be impressed by and feel some admiration for the cleverness of complex and lengthy PF tracks, such as the one Blue linked.

Then again, as they say in racing (and many other areas), YMMV.

The player doesn't have to: it's a PF or Press Forward track. That's a particular style of TrackMania track building where all the effort is made by the builder to define you path you drive/fly. The player just has to keep pressing Forward, the slightest steering action will throw you off that path, and usually crash.

In other words, such tracks (there are thousands but not often this long) are showcases for the builder's skill, not the player's.

So, you're really not steering at all, but do you have to do anything with the throttle to make sure you hit the jumps at the right speed?
Nope, just keep Pressing Forward, hence such tracks are typically marked PF.

Ahh, that makes a little more sense. So, you're really not steering at all, but do you have to do anything with the throttle to make sure you hit the jumps at the right speed?

The only thing that flat-earthers have to fear is sphere itself.

That's just crazy, you can't even see where you're going most of the time.
