Ah, that's good to hear. I heard it was a controller game.

I'm sure it's probably better to play with a controller, especially the more advanced flying the car aspect. But keyboard and mouse is definitely sufficient.

I would also drop Hairworks AA to 2x, and drop shadows one notch. You'll probably gain another 5-7 fps or so.

Setting those increased frame rate to 47. When I'm running, riding, or turning rapidly frame rate drops to 41. So the average is around 45. I went from 27 to 45. Thanks!

My bad, I skimmed through and thought he said he had a 640, didn't see that he'd upgraded. I was actually really impressed with the fps he was pulling out of that thing.

Drop "Foliage Visibility Range" one notch and you should get an 8-10fps boost with minimal change.

This seems to be the most taxing setting for me after the improvements to the other settings in the recent patches.

Oh wow! I jumped up to 40 frame rate!

I'm impressed your relatively old card is handling it so well. Further to Krovven's suggestion, I would also drop Hairworks AA to 2x, and drop shadows one notch. You'll probably gain another 5-7 fps or so.

Considering a GTX980 can't average 60FPS at 1080p on Ultra settings, I'm gonna go ahead and say you're wrong on that one. You'd be lucky to average 30FPS.

You're probably right. I've never been a good judge of frame rates based on what I see on screen. All I know is with my CPU, graphic card, and 8GB DDR3 RAM Witcher 3 runs really nice for me with Ultra settings. I'll use nVidia's Shadowplay in-game frame rate counter after work tonight and report back with actual frame rates.

Locations (tested during the day cycle so that I have maximum visibility)

- Velen @ Hanged Man's Tree (25-33 frames)
- Skellige @ Kaer Trolde Harbor (30-33 frames)
- Novigrad @ Hierach Square to Docks to St. Gregory's Bridge to Electors' Square to Fire Temple's front door (25-35 frames)

GTA (latest Steam version)

Tested during the day cycle so that I have maximum visibility
- Long drive from Los Santos through country side and back to Los Santos (31 - 43 frames)
- Some quick noticeable drops under 30 when entering an area with lots of stuff (like country side to Los Santos)

So I'm happy to report that Witcher 3 has an average frame rate of around 27. GTA 5 has better with an average frame rate of around 35. Dance

If Total Biscuit were to look at those numbers his response would probably be like "That just horrid. Absolutely horrid." ~30 frames is perfectly fine for me. It's plays smooth for me.

14nm from 22nm... I recommend you update yourself and read some more articles here's one of many links link2 (its not a stretch to infer less TDP when a major die shrink is involved let alone the accompanying articles) detailing the TDP...which btw is due in the next few months (so its hardly a leak at this point)

Go Rocket League!!! Been playing a lot of this game lately with friends and still loving it. Witcher 3 may have a ridiculous amount of high production value content and many game hours to get through, but Rocket League is just pure concentrated fun. Of course they're completely different kinds of games. I'll make it through Witcher 3 someday.

Witcher 3 fell off that list. Such an amazing game.

It's also a hugely demanding game. Much more so than even GTAV, which sells like hotcakes anyway. You need quite a beefy rig to run it at settings to do it justice. Im sure it will sell much better at a later date when it goes on sale, and when people's hardware is a bit better in general.

Yep. I haven't purchased it yet due to waiting for skylake to release before I upgrade my old q9650/7870/4gb ram system. Still might go with the 4790 or 5820 but the prices will drop with skylake hitting the market. It's killing me holding off though. Very hard not to read any spoilers!

Friend of mine is in the same boat. I recommend going the 5820K vs a Skylake. 15mb cache and 6c12t vs 8mb cache and 4c8t is much better. Skylake TDP is down so its the better choice if your going for a mobile system like a laptop, but for a desktop Skylake is really underwhelming. Another reason is the 5820 is 2011-3 chipset which will be compatible with Skylake's successor oddly enough and Skylake will be LGA1151 chipset which will most likely never have more then 4cores.

As for Nvidia and 9xx series maxwell, its a big step up from keplar 6xx/7xx series. Although going from a 640 to a 960 is a pretty huge bump considering 640 is a lowend gpu and 960 midrange and a architecture bump.

Same! Though my upgrade was more noticeable. I went from a 2GB GT640 to a 4GB GTX960. I was fully expecting to have marginable improvement but I was thoroughly shocked when I was able to crank up everything to max without performance problems. I know the CPU is important but this confirms for me that a lot of work is handled by the graphic card.

Loving rocket league on the PS4. I'm tempted to buy it on the PC as well. I caught the end of the ESL NA Rocket League tournament yesterday, holy cow, those guys are much better than I am.

I'm having a tough time guiding my car in the air but those guys do it almost with ease.

My rig has no trouble in w3, as long as the Hair effects are turned off. They still cause issues with framerate and don't really do much visually.

I'm running a pair of 970s @ 1080p. Running with just one causes it to struggle a little, but not anything terrible. I find this out usually from forgetting to turn SLi back on when I update the drivers.
