Endless Space 2 Announced

Amplitude Studios announces Endless Space 2, an ironically titled sequel to their award-winning 4X space-strategy game. They offer a 20-second amplified reality teaser trailer as well as an interactive video to show off the new game, which will make its official debut next week at Gamescom, though they indicate there are "secrets" buried within the interactive clip that could reveal more of their plans between now and then. Here's word:

Following a huge community effort to uncover clues, award-winning developer Amplitude Studios announced the debut of the fourth game in the Endless series, Endless Space 2. The sequel to the two-time Unity-award winning Endless Space, Amplitude’s latest title features more turn-based, 4X space-strategy that launches players into the space colonisation age of various civilizations within the Endless universe.

Endless Space 2 will make its debut at gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany. For media interested in a first-look demo, please contact ICO Partners at pr@icopartners.com.

Amplitude’s GAMES2GETHER community participated in an internet scavenger hunt to collect various clues that eventually lead to the reveal of Endless Space 2 in an “Amplified Reality” trailer. The interactive trailer is available HERE, follow the on-screen instructions to interact.

The “Amplified Reality” trailer offers players the chance to watch a mysterious timeline unravel, with further information on the game revealed through interacting at particular moments. Amplitude’s GAMES2GETHER community has quickly discovered that the trailer links to elements from the original Endless Space, Dungeon of the Endless and Endless Legend. Further secrets are still embedded within the trailer, however. Players can join Amplitude’s GAMES2GETHER programme to become part Endless Space 2’s development, and unlock the first revealed hero for the game.

Never played it, but if reports of galciv 3 being basically galciv 2 are true I have to disagree. I tried es few times but got bored before long. Maybe it's the fact that you have pre designated routes instead of being able to go anywhere. Felt like despite it being space there was less freedom then most 4x games I've played. Also the races in galciv at least have some personality. Too many factions in es are just humans.

Playing the Cravers in Endless Space is an interesting change from a typical 4X game. They burn out their planets eventually so you have to keep pushing outward or die.
If Amplitude has learned from ES and EL then ES2 should be quite good.
A friend gave me GalCiv 3, and I couldn't get into it at first. Hopefully the patches will have improved the gameplay somewhat.
The Diplomacy AI was annoying as hell. On one turn a race would be sucking up to me, the next threatening me, and on the third suggesting we take out another. And it would continue like that all through the game.

The races in Galciv 3 have boring, cookie-cutter 'personalities'. ES had a race of giant amoebas, ravenous insects, warlike avians, sentient rocks, a race of science-obsessed Sectoids(Xcom), a nature-loving AI race and another AI race which is preparing for the eventual return of their lost makers. That's 7 non-human races. All with unique and interesting lore. There are 5 'human' factions...one of which is a narcissistic set of clones of the same person. No law says you have to include human factions in your games.

Also, free-travel in any direction(warp drive) is an unlocked tech.

AI is not their strong suit. On the other hand, I expect that Endless Space 2, like it's predecessor, will not be nearly as boring and meh as GalCiv 3.

I hope they add some new battle mechanics. It's cool to watch the cinematic battle once or twice, but after a while it becomes really boring. Complex politics and alliances and some better battles would be great.

Sword of the Stars 2, for better or worse, had pretty good 3d space battles that were a lot of fun to play and watch.

We're still trying to get them to make the Endless Legend AI better. They at least seem to be listening on that front.

AI is not their strong suit. On the other hand, I expect that Endless Space 2, like it's predecessor, will not be nearly as boring and meh as GalCiv 3.

To elaborate, AI seems to be what they think about LAST. They like to build asymetrical races with unique traits, but that's an AI nightmare in reality.

First wasn't bad but yes, as Flatline said it seemed unbalanced. Also if I remember correctly, the research trees were huge and convoluted, which didn't help.

Did they ever fix the obscenely imbalanced cheating AI that could outbuild in 2 systems what you could build having conquered the entire rest of the galaxy?
