I've often thought that Nvidia could be deliberately manipulating their drivers in order to reduce performance in such a way that their cards still outperform AMD but don't take full advantage of the cards so that people are forced or compelled to upgrade more often. People will come back and say that the cards are tacked out at 100% usage on the GPU and VRAM so it would appear that my thoughts are invalid, but how can we be sure that it's all legit and not some kind of bloatware or something in the driver or planted in the games that Nvidia helps the devs with. It's actually a brilliant strategy from a corporate point of view if it's true.
It's really not that far fetched.
Games just get more complex. That has nothing to do with the drivers causing the card to underperform. That does not happen. My videocard is 5 years old, and still performs just as well as it did the day I bought it. It runs tons of games at maximum, 1440p well into the triple digit framerates. Obviously, newer titles won't run as smoothly on older hardware, but that's the nature of technology. This card still runs newer titles impressively well though, so I'd say there is absolutely zero merit to that paranoid delusion of a conspiracy theory. I've heard it told before too. It's simply not true.
