World of Warcraft Expansion Reveal Next Week

Blizzard announces plans to unveil a new expansion for World of Warcraft at Gamescom next week, saying the unveiling of new content for the MMORPG will take place at noon EDT on August 6th. Here's the plan:
Join us Thursday, August 6 at 9 a.m. PDT for a special World of Warcraft event streamed live from gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany—where we’ll be unveiling the next chapter of the World of Warcraft saga. . . .

Tune in again Sunday, August 9 at 8:00 a.m. PDT for a World of Warcraft developer chat before the show ends, and find out more about what’s in store.

Stay tuned to our dedicated gamescom page for further details on the live stream. Those who are able to join us in person at gamescom can visit us at the Blizzard booth in hall 7.1. We hope to see you there!

For all we know Garrisons could've turned out to be such a popular addition that it spawned a new IP for Blizzard. We shouldn't bash them for wanting to try new things even if they turn out to be failures. World of Warcraft could have been a failure. I remember thinking "A Warcraft MMO? Is Blizzard stupid."

Even if I remotely thought about playing WoW again, I would probably just wander around all the abandoned areas. Everyone just flocks to the new zones from what I've read.

This is a major issue with WoD. Nobody flocks to new zones (Tanaan aside) because they're all sitting in their garrison. There's no reason to go anywhere. You can queue to anything. You can get resources in your garrison (herbs and mining). Tanaan is crap anyway unless you loved crystal farming and wanted to do it multiple times a day. Aside from the boss, there's no reason to go there once you finish rep grinding for flying.

I really wish they'd bring back a Dalaran type city so I know other people exist in the world.
The Garrison was an experiment with changing up the usual routine. It also was an attempt to satisfy the Character Housing itch that some people had. They needed to make it something that assisted with "progression" or it wouldn't have been worth the money to develop.
Hopefully with all the feedback and metrics they can fine tune the idea.

I stopped handing Blizzard their monthly fee after the abomination that was garrisons was introduced and flying was removed.

It is always unpleasant to watch a franchise like this wither away after the parent company moves on to more profitable pastures (MOBAS and card games).

This seems early considering the last one came out just last year. Is Blizzard finally going to do annual expansions? Will I care by then?

This new one would have to come out by december if that were the case, and unless blizzard shocks us all, announcing it in aug, means beta through next year, and possible release in spring if we are lucky.

It's timed around the launch of the movie

I really enjoyed WoD until about halfway through, but this last raid looked boring, and then all the bullshit back-and-forth between the community and the devs about flying, and then also ending the expac with this raid and a generic ending...

I mean, I had fun and met a lot of awesome people, but if this is what they're gonna do from now on... I think I've finally about had my fill of WoW (after not having played since Lich King).

Shrinking the content cycles has been a goal sense at least Cata. The problem is getting enough people in the right areas to pump the content out.
Getting the content out fast like a well oiled machine is how they are going to keep the game alive. They can't pull out anything ground breaking without having to make a new game.

'cause WoD sucks and they want to sweep it away. The leveling up experience was awesome. But the end-game is crap. Only 1 content patch (compared to 3+ for others). Putting a vendor in my garrison doesn't count as content (6.1). While I'm bitching, shipyards are pure shit. Worst mechanic in the whole game. BAH I say!

Anyway.. I'll be glad to move on to the next expansion. I just pray it isn't orc related.

Rise of Hogger...

Seriously, it'll be an empire management game where you create a new garrison and eventually take over the entire new zone and become Donald Trump or some shit...

Okay, that wasn't really serious, but I think WoW has jumped the shark at this point.

Doesn't matter, I won't ever go back to playing this. Too much time, too repetitive and too much money.

All I want to know is.. will there be a permanent "automatically level this character from 90 to 100 so you don't need to touch the last horrible expansion" button?

The soul of The Lich King has won over Bolvar Fordragon and he's back... He has resurrected Illidan, C'thun, Kil'jaeden.

And he has a new lieutenant that is hinted to, but not revealed until the final content update of the expansion - Tirion Fordring. When he picked up the Lich King's helm on the ice crown enough of Ner'zhul's corruption got into him to turn him many years later.

Yep... That would be amazing.

I haven't played WoW since early Cataclysm, but just a month ago I changed my WhatsApp sound to the Murloc aggro grrllbrrlll sound for old times sake. It puts a smile on my face all the time xD Today for the first time I received a message in the middle of a crowded bus while my volume was accidentily maxed out. People laughed xP

Btw, I thought the last expansion was the last!
