"With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve.
After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER.
We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage."

According to my information the blame for the X-Rebirth debacle was more with Deep Silver than Egosoft. 80/20, if you want to quantify it. Stupid, utter stupid product management from Deep Silver and a dev, who was forced to finish a broken, misguided attempt to make a X console game with the little resources he had.
There are some people at Deep Silver, who are just toxic. Not particular stupid, because they manage to survive all internal power struggle and still are on top, just toxic for everyone involved.

I can't speculate beyond that but I think you'll find the answer if you focus more on Deep Silver than YAGER.

From what I saw of Dead Island 2, this is good news. I don't really see room for Dead Island 2 now that we have Dying Light though...

They probably compared it to Dying Light and were like, "fml"
So Techland made Dead Island 1 + Riptide (which were okay, but had some good stuff going for them), then made Dying Light on their own as their own IP, I guess? Unrelated to Dead Island? Why would they even do that? (make two similar games, even if two different developers)

Just odd there were no rumblings before this.

OMG where do I preorder!?
That's the first time I've ever seen a publisher publicly fire a developer like that. Maybe they quit but who cares. The franchise and that developer are fucked.
