Op Ed

Massively Overpowered - Star Citizen is still worth the wait.
"Or we could be real and realize that Star Citizen was announced in October of 2012. Even if we use that as ground zero and ignore the fact that the game didn’t morph into the virtual world beast that it is today for several additional months, that was under three years ago. Can you name a triple-A MMOlike with Star Citizen’s feature set (even its early, trimmed-down feature set), and its visual fidelity that shipped in under three years?"

Sell your Star Citizen stuff on the grey market while it still has some value left. Get out while you can.

You won't know if its worth the wait until - and if - the game is released. Guy writes OPED fanboy piece and is insulted when people call him a fanboy. Yeah...ok. Rolleyes

HAHA the quoted part reminds me of SC early days when people like me said that it is completely unrealistic that this game will ship with all features by the end of 2014.
Of course we got pounced on by the Christ Roberts White Knight Cultists who were quick to point out that we had no clue and the game had already been in development for a long time (they always pointed out the S42 demo footage that was released for the KS campaign). When told that a prototype visualization demo is not the same as gameplay they went ballistic, like, how anyone dare question that CR would make it happen.

Fast forward to today and when people point out the very slow progress you have the very same Christ Roberts White Knight Cultists pointing out that people have no clue because full development did not start until recently blahblahblah...

Too funny. I mean which is it guys? Oh well... they are just following their leader I guess. Christ Roberts is like the World Champion of Flip-Flopping. It was kinda cute in the early SC days but nowadays I just can't even stand listening to the guy anymore. It's all just blahblahblah immersion blahblah immersion blahblah net code blahblah marketing blahblah immersion blablahblahblah bluhbluh blehbleh blahblohbluhblub... yeah, right, Christ, kindly STFU mkay?

The teaser is boring crap, but the write up is quite interesting. Sounds convincing

Man those links in the comments section are weak ass sauce.

The little teaser video, (Van Gundy Voice) "Are you kidding me?", my kid can do that at a week long tech-arts camp. And then gifs of different sights, big whoop-ti-doo!!!

And then things written like this:
"There are fundamental differences between Star Citizen and other traditional shooters in the way we keep our 1st person and 3rd person models and camera in sync. Going into why we are in this state is a much longer topic for another day."

No today's the day, you again are saying something but saying nothing at the same exact time.

Read the blog and with this massive team they are pussy footing around FPS basics like a small group of amateurs.

There is your S.C. lighter fluid response of the day.

Found this as well in their comments. Example development time comparison of other MMOs (I wonder if ESO fans were mad about that 7 year wait). Anyways, I'll leave ya'll to your discussion - time to go play Witcher 3.

The big question is: Why has no one ever shown that image to Christ Roberts? Why does he keep coming up with totally unrealistic dates?

Because: Let us not shift the blame. The community is getting impatient because CIG keep missing THEIR OWN target dates that they voluntarily publicize to the fans. It was Christ Roberts who claimed live on stage last year that we'd play the FPS module by March, not the community. Do. Not. Shift. Blame. The unrealistic expectations are 100% a CIG self-made issue.

Did you pay for ESO in advance to fund its development? Did they go off the rails and start making other stuff that had nothing to do with the original version. People simply wanted a new Wing Commander game. Not an FPS, or MMO, or anything else. So much for your apples to oranges comparison.

100% correct. I will never understand why they keep caving to pressure to give dates when this is such uncharted territory in game design challenges. They're up to their neck in difficult shit that hasn't been attempted before at this level of detail.

actually they did get into great detail about their camera and animation concepts for FPS at the January Town Hall. It is quite a lot to go over, so it's understandable he left it out in a short update post.

If that's all they can show of the FPS module then this is going to be another "Interstellar Marines" fiasco. Those weapon site gifs look like they were done in photoshop, the blurring effect is retarded and doesn't even match from one to the other.

They're in full spin control, why don't they just put up a huge banner that says "Please don't sue us!"

Chris is the ideas guy. Ideas guys are by definition overly optimistic. If he was a realist, he would have decided it couldn't be done and never launched this in the first place. You need ideas guys, but you also need someone of equal power to rein them in, plan properly, help define scope, etc. Not sure there's anyone over at RSI that can do that.

Didn't look like trolling to me as this isn't a fanboard, but a place where discussion can (hopefully) be evenhanded. SC certainly deserves criticism as it's gotten ridiculous amounts of money, and changes what it's designs are during the course of production. I was interested in it myself when it was first coming out as a new Wing Commander...Now it's a huge glop of things and there's no visible end to the tunnel.
