Ship Ahoy - F1 2015

Codemasters announces F1 2015 is now available in stores in EMEA territories, and the Formula One racing simulation is also available on Steam, so the announcement in May to expect the game on July 21st in North America may apply to the boxed edition. There are reports of glitches in the release version and the first patch for the game is now available (thanks Kotaku). Here's a launch trailer and here's word:
F1 2015 delivers a truly immersive experience thanks to an all-new ‘broadcast presentation’ style that recreates the unique race day atmosphere of a GRAND PRIX™, complete with introductory grid sequences, new motion-captured pit stops by a real world pit crew, and the iconic podium celebrations. Using voice recognition technology available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, players can become immersed in the cockpit, engaging with their race engineer through in-game voice commands with Kinect for Xbox One and the PlayStation®Camera or compatible headsets and microphones for PlayStation 4. Players compete as their favourite FORMULA ONE star in the all-new Championship Season and push themselves to the limit in the challenging Pro Season mode. The game also features fully playable 2014 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™ bonus content.

To celebrate the game’s launch, Codemasters have released a new F1 2015 launch trailer that showcases how F1 2015 takes players closer to the real-world experience of racing in the world’s most glamorous, exciting and prestigious motorsport, thanks to a brand new version of Codemasters’ proprietary EGO game engine. In addition to spectacular visual fidelity, F1 2015 offers a significant step forward in the physics-based handling model of the game, which is designed to be inclusive for both seasoned players and those new to the series. The handling model offers enhancements and additions in over 20 areas, including engine and transmission, aerodynamics, fuel tank, force feedback, suspension and most notably, a brand new tyre physics model, to recreate the breathtaking handling characteristics of the world’s fastest and most responsive racing cars.

As far as I know they are using a new game/graphics engine for this title, this is the first F1 title on "next gen" consoles, so that may explains the reason why SLI worked in previous titles and not in this one.

With that said I am hearing a lot of issues with the PC version. I'd hold on with the purchase and maybe grab this on sale down the line.
The console versions work fine though.

No SLI support? Fucking hell, not this again. Pathetic.

Really? For 5% of gamers out there? For a graphics engine that hardly requires it?
There's no excuse when the previous games support it. All they have to do is not break it. Those with SLI setups represent the enthusiasts, those who spend the most on gaming. To not have support out-of-the-box is unacceptable. SLI support is a great indication of the amount of effort put in by the developer.

F1 2013 was the best version to date because of the classic mode and the refinements from previous versions. I skipped F1 2014 because there were no obvious improvements and it removed the classic mode, rather than expanding it as they should have done.

What annoys me is that Codemasters games used to be great but they've really gone downhill.

Some people hold up 2013 as the gold standard. Hopefully someone can let us know how this compares.

Depends on how you look at it.

The old school cars found in the Classic Edition DLC for F1 2013 were fun because they lacked grip due to low downforce and smaller front wheels, plus the 80's cars also had a reckless amount of TURBO power. These cars were HARD to drive...and the refined 2013 cars in the game were not at all interesting to race when compared to the classic content.

People hate on F1 2014 and call it a stopgap title because it 'lacked content' compared to the previous release. But that is shortsighted.

Codies used the lessons learned from those classic turbos to introduce a surprisingly fun lineup of new-age turbo cars for F1 2014. The driving mechanics they simcaded are a great combination of torquey, tail-happy cars that fit into the modern formula of downforce and grip. IMO, these cars are the most difficult and rewarding to drive of all the modern F1 cars that Codies have created in the franchise.

Furthermore, Codies F1 2011 and 2012 featured unlimited DRS activation in practice and qualifying (hot lap mode), so it was possible to kick the wing open before the car was straight and slide out the tail on exit. F1 2013 matched the FIA rules of that season which limited DRS activation to only the designated zones, making the cars feel neutered and the driving experience less engaging. Without the classic content, I think F1 2013 could be considered the worst of the bunch.

Word that the port is shit going around. Be wary.
