Out of the Blue

Happy 7/7, or, for those in Europe, 7/7. If you believe the fates are influenced by numbers, then surely this must be a lucky day. Sort of the anti-Friday the 13th, right? Here's hoping we all hit the lottery or something.

Lucky Links: Thanks Ant and Acleacius.
Play: Ricochet Kills Space.
Bad Piggies Online 2015.
Word Play 2- 5 Differences.
Links: Oh God, Someone Ran Fear and Loathing Through Google's Neural Network.
Media: Sea Kayakers rescue a trapped dolphin on the Isle of Barra.
French Bulldog gets outed by his best friend.

I don't know why it took you $1000 to realize early access / crowdfunding is a horrible way to develop a game.

I unfortunately wore the rose colored glasses for many years. So I was blinded by the hype.

I'm looking forward to Fallout 4. At least I know when I buy it I get a game. I'm never backing crowdfunded projects. I simply don't trust them.

To all the people who I called "moron" and "idiot" for mocking the crowdfunding and early access model... I would like to man up and apologize.

We's still wuvs you! And there's a lot of us feeling burnt right now, not just you...hell, at the time, and based on what was first shown, I have a lot more faith in SC than I did (a new) Elite, a game that had been talked about on and off for a decade. And we see how that turned out now...

3. Braben's game is a hollow shell. I don't know if SC will also be a hollow shell, but it seems like they're trying to flesh it out a bit before release. Also, don't forget that Braben fucked us all by getting rid of offline play, which CR is not. CR and Braben are taking different approaches, but I'm not sure that Braben's will be superior in the end.

Ever played the original Elite? The new Elite is basically a carbon copy, with prettier graphics. This is ALL that Braben promised, and he delivered. Big. Time. I too am a little bit let down by the 'big empty' of Elite, but at least he shipped a game, and one that the diehard fans of the original Elite wanted. I am not a diehard fan, far from it, but there is no way Im dissing the man for not living up to someone else's expectations. Braben shipped a game, what exactly did Chris Roberts ship??

So in 30 years the only progress we've made is prettier graphics? I agree he did put something out, and it's more complete than Arena Commander, etc. Still has a long way to go though.

Now I'm back to playing Terraria, a feature-rich title released YEARS ago that just pushed another bigass content patch.

I'm glad folks are finally realizing Roberts bullshit.

And yeah, what's missing from the new Elite that was in the previous versions?

1, 2. I wasn't. That's the problem with hype. I literally did the Fry meme "shut up and take my money."

3. Crowdfunding sucks. DON'T DO IT NO MATTER WHAT THEY PROMISE. It's the snake oil salesmen of the 18th century all over again.

I may have gone a tad overboard and told everyone on Reddit Star Citizen to go "fuck themselves" to the point where they actually think I'm Derek Smart.

I hope the game fails hard (yes I realize I will be out $960). But I want Chris' project to fail so that all this out of control crowdfunding and early access BULLSHIT will stop. It's a fucking failed model and needs to DIE now. I'm saying this as a $3,000 dollar fully invested in multiple projects insider.

The only project to actually be delivered is Elite Dangerous. David Braben said exactly what he would make, stuck with it and delivered. He never bloated to hell. Keep the focus on what he promised. A wonderful human being.

Chris Roberts on the other hand is a flimflam, snake oil sales person.

My post on Star Citizen Reddit (Yes I actually made those graphics). http://tinyurl.com/oqfkb8p

This is happening on the SC forums. Mods are nothing more than power mad dissent silencers. It doesn't matter if you have a valid point to make and make it using clear reasoning or humor. They will silence you if you are overly critical as has happened to me numerous times.

The Kool-Aid drinkers that make up the Star Citizen fanbase are some of the worse gamers. They have no idea how much they're being control by a man who wants ABSOLUTE control over not only his game (and believe me it is HIS game; not the fans) but over how the game is perceived.

Oh please you over-sensitive pansies. Give Blue a break. He was making light, and he didnt know. Are people who were born on 9/11 (in the US) or the 7/7 (in the UK) barred from celebrating their birthday for life on that date? There are horrible, tragic things happening in the world each second of each day, so quit your politicaly correct policing, go outside, have some fun and try to think happy thoughts.

I use my PS3 as the media device hooked up to the TV, but anything would really do. Between Netflix, Amazon Prime, and PlayOn running on a PC to stream Hulu (non-Plus) (and other) content to the PS3, I'm pretty set.

As you say, the 7/7 bombings weren't as significant globally as 9/11, but I remember feeling the same sense of shock and outrage when it happened, so I'm disappointed that Blue hasn't saw fit to change today's OotB in light of his enlightenment.

Uh 7/7 lucky day?? you do know that UK people remember that date a bit like the date 9/11 is remembered in the US, right? as in "The seven-seven bombings in London"

IAW, not considered a "reverse Friday the 13th" exactly here in Europe..

The tone of this struck me as rather odd after reading UK-based general news sites. "Remembrance services for" ... "minute's silence" ... "happy 7/7" ... erm. I don't think Blue is being insensitive or anything as something shitty has happened on pretty much any day of the year and while the comparison with 9/11 makes sense to Brits, it wasn't as significant an event globally. (Ugh, comparing tragedies makes me feel grubby.)

Edit: Ninja'd by Blue. I'm surprised it doesn't feature on the BBC's World page. It is the main article on the UK one, one of the sites I had been previous to reading this.

Sorry, I did not recall that was the seventh, I hadn't seen any references to this morning, even on the BBC website. I wasn't trying to be insensitive, it just worked out that way.
